More releases of products from IFA 2006, but this time, it’s actually in India! The new MP3 player we spotted at IFA from Samsung—the YP-K5—has been launched!
The K5's distinctive feature is a set of speakers that slide out from under the player. The loud speakers are meant to signify their philosophy about music sharing. The stereo speakers employ Samsung's DNSe technology that claim to offer undistorted virtual surround sound.
The speakers do add a little bulk to the device, which is around 1.8cm thick, a lot thicker than the 0.66cm iPod Nano. The front of the K5 has a familiar iPod-like vertical orientation with a 1.7-inch, 128x160 OLED screen and touch-sensitive, backlit control buttons below it.
Formats supported by the K5 include MP3 and WMA, and it also has an FM radio tuner. You can also store and view JPEG pictures on it.
The Samsung YP-K5 comes in just one color—black—but you have size options. The 2 GB version retails for Rs 16,000 and the 4 GB version Rs 18,000.
