HP Warns of Printer Vulnerability
By: Sharon Khare   |   Apr 07, 2006
Hewlett-Packard (HP) has warned customers of a recently discovered vulnerability in two of its printer models - Color LaserJet 2500 and Color LaserJet 4600 - that makes personal information accessible to hackers.

The security vulnerability affects the Toolbox software installed alongside the printers and allows hackers to steal information. The flaw could allow a remote, unauthorized malicious user to retrieve arbitrary files from a Windows computer when the software is running in the default configuration.

The company has made a fix available through its HP Color LaserJet 2500/4600 Software Update version 3.1. HP has urged all users of the affected printer software to upgrade to the latest version.
