Canon Launches New PowerShot Camera
By: Gagan Gupta   |   Aug 21,2007

Canon U.S.A., Inc. announced today that its G-series has a new top-of-the line model - the PowerShot G9 digital camera. The PowerShot G9 digital camera offers serious shooters and value-minded professionals a feature-packed camera with many of the advanced photographic capabilities of a D-SLR camera, in a lightweight, compact package.

The PowerShot G9 digital camera features the same matte black, retro design that G-series cameras sport. The camera features RAW Mode allowing advanced photographers the option of using RAW+JPEG simultaneous capture functionality.

The PowerShot G9 digital camera features 12.1 megapixel resolution, 6x optical zoom lens and Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS).

"The PowerShot G9 digital camera brings our highest levels of performance and usability to the G-series," said Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A. "By combining RAW Mode with our other key technologies in this camera, we're providing a high-performing and affordable option to advanced photo enthusiasts who want the creative power of a Digital SLR in a smaller body form."

In stores in the US by October, the PowerShot G9 camera kit includes a lithium-ion rechargeable battery and battery charger, a 32MB MMC plus memory card, a USB interface cable, an AV cable, a neck strap, and Canon's software suite at an estimated selling price of $499.99.

No indication about its Indian launch as yet.

Hi there.
I have spoken to canon india in person for buying this camera, they didnt even have a clue that it existed. so then the head called me when i complained to canon singapore and said that this model may be or may not be launched and personally requested me to get it from another source, that was because of the poor performance of G7. I bought it the next day from the grey market for 19200 rupees. on november 16th. if launched here it will be sold at 34000 with the retailer, grey market is better option.
Very happy with the camera it gives lot of use able pro-slr features in small body, high iso performance is bad but upto 200-400 is useable. 3200 is usable if u convert it too black and white.
Very happy with the pocket sized power house.

Its available in India thru Grey Market..not in authorized stores yet... you can get it for 25k as of today
I got 1 for myself, and it looks pretty neat to handle, and ergonomics of the camera is 10/10. Image Quality is good, but dont expect high ISO level to be great...its same as all comapct cameras...if you want to click pictures at high ISO then buy a DSLR. However ISO above 400 is hardly used.

I think Worth its value.
