40 GB PlayStation 3 Officially Launched Here
By: Nikhil Singh   |   Nov 26,2007
The 40 GB PS3 was finally announced (officially) at the PlayStation Experience Expo, and it’s priced somewhat reasonably at Rs. 24,990. However, this price drop comes at a cost –

"The new model is no longer backwards compatible with PlayStation 2 titles, reflecting both the reduced emphasis placed on this feature amongst later purchasers of PS3, as well as the availability of a more extensive line-up of PS3 specific titles (a total of 65 titles across all genres by Christmas)."

Here’s what Atindriya Bose, Country Manager of Sony Computer Entertainment, India:

"The introduction of high definition gaming and entertainment systems among the Indian audience is a result of extensive research which has resulted in creating an entire new dimension to the overall entertainment experience".

Even at 25k the PS3’s Indian price is significantly higher than the Rs. 16,000 approx. (USD $399) US price tag.

On a side note, we’ll tell you more about the PlayStation Experience Expo in our feature tomorrow. Stay tuned.

If we buy the 60GB or the 40 GB in U.S(NTSC) will it be compatible in India(PAL). if it is i think it is a better option to buy it in US.

what is the price of 60gb ps3 in india??

and by the way how can we download game demos in india??
varad kale @ Nov 28,2007
Sonyz going nuts! This is insane. The PS2 games aren't compatible, and the PS3 India price tag is far too costly, when the gray market is already full of it. Who on earth would buy the regular PS3?

They're insane. They really need to study the Indian market before launching their products with a same-for-all price premium strategy. Nuts!

I don't think this is a good price. As noted, its way higher than the US price. If this was available for around Rs. 20,000, more people would pick it up. I made the choice and settled for the 60GB one which costs Rs. 29,990 - just five grand more for full backwards compatibility "ain't no thang..."

this may be a descent bugain for those has a PS2 at home and want next generation gaming experiences :) ( like me )..I think this price will be stable at 15k at the end of 2008 with more 200 titles
satyanjoy @ Nov 26,2007
does XBOX 360 support XBOX games ???? does anybody care about XBOX anymore
satyanjoy @ Nov 26,2007
Ah, BC... its not like all the great games for Ps2 are released in India anyways :P

The price , however, is almost same as a 360 premium now (1k Difference) and that is something important to note!
Reetesh @ Nov 26,2007
