The 40 GB PS3 was finally announced (officially) at the PlayStation Experience Expo, and it’s priced somewhat reasonably at Rs. 24,990. However, this price drop comes at a cost –
"The new model is no longer backwards compatible with PlayStation 2 titles, reflecting both the reduced emphasis placed on this feature amongst later purchasers of PS3, as well as the availability of a more extensive line-up of PS3 specific titles (a total of 65 titles across all genres by Christmas)."
Here’s what Atindriya Bose, Country Manager of Sony Computer Entertainment, India:
"The introduction of high definition gaming and entertainment systems among the Indian audience is a result of extensive research which has resulted in creating an entire new dimension to the overall entertainment experience".
Even at 25k the PS3’s Indian price is significantly higher than the Rs. 16,000 approx. (USD $399) US price tag.
On a side note, we’ll tell you more about the PlayStation Experience Expo in our feature tomorrow. Stay tuned.

They're insane. They really need to study the Indian market before launching their products with a same-for-all price premium strategy. Nuts!

The price , however, is almost same as a 360 premium now (1k Difference) and that is something important to note!
