Samsung Bumps GDDR4 Speeds To 4 Gbps
By: Jayesh Mansukhani   |   Feb 26,2007
Samsung Electronics, the world's largest memory manufacturer has announced that that it has increased the speeds that GDDR (Graphics double date rate) memory chips operate at. As compared to the earlier speeds of 2.4 Gbps, the new GDDR4 RAM now operates at 4 Gbps. This is a significant jump as GDDR is a vital constituent of modern day graphic cards. ATI/AMD already has solutions available to the end-consumer that utilize GDDR4.

This jump in speed has been achieved by switching to the 80nm manufacturing process. The first 4Gbps GDDR4 to be available commercially will be a 512M bit (64M byte) chip. Samsung will begin offering sample chips to customers this month and mass production will come later this year.
