Apple Sells Close to 5 Million iPhones
By: Shayne Rana   |   Dec 24,2007

Steve Jobs looks all set to have a merry Christmas this year. It would seem as if his goal of selling 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008 is about to be half-achieved.

According to sources, the company is expecting to make a grand announcement at its Macworld Expo in January 2008 to the effect that Jobs' halfway mark in iPhone sales has been achieved. It’s not official yet – I’m sure the figures will be counted and recounted before the official number is announced.

Sales have been apparently been going through the roof and the iPhone has, like Apple’s own iPod, become yet another technological phenomenon. Stay tuned, and have a Merry Christmas.

Rajeev,

Good that you bought an iPhone with fw 1.1.1 instead of 1.1.2. Now this piece sitting with me of no use.

Unable to get Turbo SIM in India; there are no software unlock option. Software unlock would take time as Steve Jobs want to keep the iPhone price in the grey market intact for sometime - especially during the holiday-x-mas season.

@ AMAR:
I got it for RS. 16,800, a relative of mine got it from US this, DEC 20,
I was hoping it would be v1.1.2, but luckily it was 1.1.1, and i unlocked it within 15 minutes, with wifi,
i have solved the sms forward thing, i have custom ringtones, i also have video recpording,
i think at that price, I'm lucky to have that phone unlocked , with all the features hacked,
there are plenty of softwares for everything, and every software related thing, has been solved, and more to come,
iPhone rocks.
at 16,800, it's worth it !

Those who are living in US/UK/France and have connection with AT&T/O2 are best suited for buying iPhones. Others better stay away from this phone.

Those who have unlocked iPhones (with the help of hacking communities) are struggling with mutilated features(crippled bluetooth, no SMS, no customized Ring Tone, no video recording), security threats etc...new firmware upgrades bricking the iPhone (making it as useless) etc...No warranty inspite of taking all these risks...Just think about it, does this expensive dynosorus really worth it?
Amar @ Dec 25,2007
Not worth it! I have the latest one with me right now being used as paperweight because there is no unlock solution available. Apple is trying to fool the real customers by having unofficial tie-ups with hackers and promote their phones by deceiving their customers(not officially, though).

iPhone is still infant in terms of real features. It has cute and innovative display, plus decent built quality. The price should be around Rs 10-12K for such phones and right now gray market is charging nearly Rs 28K for an unlocked iPhone without warranty!
Amar @ Dec 25,2007
it is stylish and good looking phone
if i will buy a new phone then iphone is my first choise
