Nokia has just launched the E62 Smartphone in India.
The E62 is a cut-down edition of their E61 business Smartphone. The phones are physically identical, but the E62 doesn't come with 3G/WCDMA/UMTS support, which is sensible since there's no 3G service in India till 2008. However, the E62 also cuts down on another feature that's not likely to go down well with prospective consumers: no WiFi and consequently no VoIP over WLAN.
The E62 comes with the QuickOffice Suite, multiple push email solutions like IntelliSync, GoodLink, Seven Always-On, BlackBerry Connect, ConstantSync Mail for Exchange etc. The E62 also features enhanced security features such as Remote Device Lock, PointSec Data Protection and Symantec Firewall.
The rest of the features are identical: quad-band GSM with GPRS and EDGE support, a wide-aspect QVGA (320x240) TFT LCD screen, a full QWERTY keypadMP3/AAC/RA playback, Bluetooth, Infrared, USB, and hot-swappable miniSD memory card support.
The Nokia E62 is available at an MRP of Rs. 19,129, but it has been selling for an affordable Rs. 16,000 for a while now, which is Rs. 2,500 cheaper than the E61.
There's no sign of the rumored E62i anywhere just yet.
