Nokia Gets Ready to Take on The iPhone
By: Shayne Rana   |   Apr 10, 2008

Nokia is apparently looking to challenge Apple’s iPhone with a totally touch sensitive handset of their own called the Tube 5800. According to a few bits and pieces of information floating aroun,d the Tube handset will support Java, should have a 3.2 megapixel (presumably auto-focus) camera, as well as have support for DVB-H technology.

So far the word is that this handset will also sport a 3.2 inch touch sensitive display and run on a Symbian S60 OS that would be designed to support touch screen navigation and usage. The phone was already displayed at the Evans Data Developer Relations Conference in Redwood City, CA. Its features include a direct upload feature for videos and images, Wi-Fi capability, Bluetooth of course, a 3.5mm earphone socket, GPS, and the handset will also be 3G compatible with HSDPA as well. The Tube will also have a TV out socket, support Haptic technology, have a feature for Geo tagging images taken with the camera and a whole lot more. Of course there's nothing official about most of the specs mentioned but when we know for sure , you will too.

If your anticipation was rising with the N96’s launch later this year, then I’m not sure how this news would make you feel. I know I’m more than just quite keen on seeing what’s in store for us by our Finnish friends and I can say, from personal experience that their previous attempts at touch screen handsets didn’t go too well with me. Let’s hope this doesn’t follow suite. But my take is - if you’re going to make something to beat the iPhone you’d may as well just go all the way and if Nokia’s building it, well, it should have everything we could think of.

No release date has been mentioned for the Nokia Tube. For more information and images click here.

Symbian OS for a touchscreen Nokia IFone Killer is a joke! Find it hard to believe that they ll be able to do it. However they could miniaturize Nokia 810 Tablet to IFone levels. Interesetingly that works on Tablet OS 2007 and not stupid Symbian!
