Nokia To Launch N96 In India Today
By: Shayne Rana   |   Aug 19, 2008
Nokia is launching its N96 in Delhi today a few days before the iPhone 3G is launched here in India. The N96 was initially set to launch first in the UK on the first of October. But Nokia seems to have changed their plans and are launching it here first.

The timing is so wickedly correct. Even as we wait for the iPhone, Nokia is dropping this fully loaded beauty into our laps and we estimate the price to be somewhere in the vicinity of Rs. 36,000.

The quandary about what phone to buy just got bigger and more complicated with these two behemoths launching so close together. The Indian market is truly getting to be the biggest mobile market on the planet and personally, being spoilt for choice, we have no complaints whatsoever.

Stay Tuned.

Ask any iPhone owner and they talk about interface only!!! but what about usability? you can copy paste , cant forward messages, cant share files thru bluetooth, cant record video, cant change battery unless its done by Apple.
nev @ Aug 26, 2008
Compare 2 Iphone I will go for Nokia N96, technically I will prefer N96. Iphone cant come much closer to N96..( touch screen does it matter ) i dont think so.. Yet N96 is much expensive.. Better wait and watch.. Sometimes its better.. worth to wait…………. N96 RULES
FaazerS @ Aug 22, 2008
no mobile is going to beat n96 a real multimedia computer so thaere is no need to compare as nokia is the best its n96 is also best
arif @ Aug 21, 2008
nokia has never bundled satisfactory accesories. always nokia n series phones have por ear phones.
noor @ Aug 21, 2008
36k...might look expensive but seeing the features i think its worth it...iphone is already out of my list...
kv @ Aug 20, 2008
N96 is expensive but appears much cheaper when you compare its features with iphone
Gaurav @ Aug 20, 2008
ya you are right at 36k instead Iphone N96 rox but i still think lack of touchscreen will force people to think twice before buy this gadget.wat say????
Tanmay @ Aug 20, 2008
officially declared today by vodafone that iphone 16GB is going to cost 36000, now i am sure that with better features, after sales support, except for touch screen, i'l buy N96 for sure.

IT IS IPHONE KILLER

iPhone3G is not having an expandable memory It is shipped in just 2 models 8GB and 16GB, while N96 can be expandable to 24GB..8GB costs around 30K while 16GB is around 36K...battery is non-replacable which is not the case in N96..no java support but should wait for a third party support for that one while in N96 its not the case its Os supports java...N96 has an updated Os while still many third party applications are being developed for iPhone(this is major setback because sometimes they may destroy the iPhone Os in long run by slowing down or gabbing up the RAM memory )... iPhone doesn.t have the basic features like phonebook, ringerId, flashlight, calculator, stopwatch(ofcourse they can be developed with third party members)
ashik @ Aug 19, 2008
hey I'm sorry its not bluetooth its Irda which is not there in iPhone and also I found many drawbacks in iPhone..Dont think Im against I phone I Have many apple products(iPod classic,iPod touch) but when I compare it iPhone to N96 these are my arguments
ashik @ Aug 19, 2008
i think this is the best phone compared to iphone coz iphone or the service providers first of all are cheating their customers by keeping iphone price around 31000 when it is available in 8500 in u.s. so basically people should not buy only iphone to teach them a lesson
ttafain @ Aug 19, 2008
N96 - you can onlyl compare an apple with an apple - not a bicycle with a ferari :) go to iphoneapplicationlist.com and check what u can do with an iphone - leave alone the built in features - even the touch screen is something 9th generation ..cool... when all u are getting is a updated S60 software ...
jack sparrow @ Aug 19, 2008
Is N96 the iPhone killer & I saw one thing that I can watch TV on the N 96 but it was mentioned that the service provider has to have the feature
Shreyas @ Aug 19, 2008
well Ashwat, I think ashik was referring to the A2DP and Bluetooth syncing features available in Nokia (among others) which are inexplicably absent from the iPhone. To transfer any settings or data, you have you use a cable, as bluetooth only allows for handsfree (non stereo). Also, the pictures taken on the iphone cannot be transferred via iTunes to your computer.. you need to email them!!
Xeno @ Aug 19, 2008
Well that's good news. But are they launching with DVB-H tv reception?
Harish @ Aug 19, 2008
Well....Ashik ,iPhone's got a Bluetooth ! And bluetooths are not only common in N series, u also have it in mobile phones in the price range Rs.3000+ too......
Ashwat @ Aug 19, 2008
I forgot iPhone has no bluetooth feature while in any Nokia N series it is common..
ashik @ Aug 19, 2008
35K for 16 GB asame as iPhone,2.8LCD screen bigger than iPhone, expandable to 24GB, Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 Operating System, 5MP camera with flash and video lights at 30 frames/sec, can play flash video, high-speed USB 2.0 connection, WLAN and HSDPA, built-in 3D stereo, phone supports Nokia Maps application which offers maps with urban details and satellite views and has upgrade options such as City Guides, turn-by-turn pedestrian mode and voice-guided car navigation, This is not iPhone competitor it is iPhone killer...hahahah
ashik @ Aug 19, 2008
Hang on a minute... isnt this also a 3G phone... and wait for it!!!! OMG!!! we are in India.... where 3G isn't available....

Applying the logic suggested in the iPhone bashing reviews, you probably should wait for few months before considering an N96 and ofcourse... N96 will be a failure in India atleast....
Joel Pinto @ Aug 19, 2008
lets hope its not just another miss by nokia,
g8 that they are launching it in india
thilak @ Aug 19, 2008
WHOA...this is a pleasant surprise...never thought they would release it here so early...Finally a company which is looking seriously at the indian market....
Ronnie @ Aug 19, 2008
Wow ! it seems to b an iphone competitor. This's not an touch phone but the feature are way better than the iphone. the price is hgher, but if the iphone cost as same as this, then this'll b my favourite. WOOO !!
