Palm To Stop Shipment Of Treo 650 To Europe

Palm's Treo 650 smartphone will no longer be exported to Europe as it violates the European Union's environment laws. The company has stopped all shipments of the Smartphone to Europe since July 1 but European operators that offer the Treo 650 will continue to sell the stock of the device.

The law, RoHS, (restriction of hazardous substances) which aims to reduce hazardous waste from electrical goods, will prevent the import of the only smartphone available to Europeans. Moreover, Palm has no plans to make a comeback or to make changes to meet the regulations. CEO Ed Colligan reportedly said that since the product was long in its lifecycle, making a change at this point did not make sense.

This has puzzled analysts as the Treo 650 is just picking up momentum in Europe after recent promotions. However, Palm says it has just begun to make its way into Europe with an engineering facility in Dublin.
