What's New With The iPhone 3G
By: Shayne Rana   |   Jun 10, 2008
For all you mobile maniacs out there, here's the scoop - the 3G Apple iPhone or the iPhone 3G as it’s being called, has now been officially launched. The reports I have, all seem to state that the attendees at Steve Jobs’ Keynote speech were somewhat thrilled and relieved that the speculation and rumor mongering of what the new iPhone would look like and would incorporate was now put to rest.

Before I begin telling you all about the iPhone 3G, I’d just like to say that when it comes to quite a few of the updates – it’s about bloody time Steve! Without further ado let me clue you in on some of the more relevant features that make up the new and improved iPhone 3G.

Design
First off, Apple has refurbished the design a bit and the iPhone 3G is now slimmer than the last model. They’ve also added a new color to the line up – White - but that’s only available with the 16GB model. The other models will now have a glossy black rear casing, and I’m tempted to wonder, why go with a finger print magnet? The earphone socket has also been adjusted to accommodate normal 3.5mm pins, so users can simply plug in any headphone of their choice. Instead of a simple flat back it now also tapers a bit to give it a sleeker look and feel. Everything else design-wise hasn’t changed too much. Considering the fact that the new handset supports 3G and should support Video calling, there still doesn’t seem to be a secondary camera located in front, so i guess that's not happening anytime soon then.

Features
Not only is the new iPhone 3G going to be faster than the previous model it’s also going to have a better battery life, which according to Apple would be 5 hours of talk time. One of the few rumors I’m happy to say are true, is the fact that the new iPhone 3G is going to be equipped with an integrated GPS unit along with a few other location-based services to help enhance that feature especially with Google Maps live tracking and photo Geotagging.

Some of the ‘bugs’ that have been fixed include an option for deleting emails in bulk, a new Contact Search feature for looking up names in the address book and complete support for viewing Microsoft as well as iWork documents. It will also have a new scientific calculator. But the best part with the handset, at least for the business users, is the total enterprise support that the iPhone 3G comes with. Besides just that, it will also support Push email, Push contacts, Push calendar, Auto-discovery of Exchange servers, Global address lookup, and a Remote Wipe security feature. Wowee!

The new iphone will cost somewhere around 12k for 8gb , the rates for the 16gb handset is still being discussed. The implementation of the scheme will begin in september and it should be available in the market by december. These are just the tentative dates, nothing is final.

Rahul @ Jun 26, 2008
Nice marketing strategy by Vodafone.....its just the pre-registration. Not BOOKING!. Airtel has been registering for the past many days. There is no news as of now that when the phone is going to be launched. Pure Marketing Gimmicks.

nishita @ Jun 26, 2008
The iPhone you'hv been waiting for. Coming soon on Vodafone. To book, sms IPHONE to 56789 or log on to vodafone.in and they will update you soon regarding the Price and Availability of it in Indian market. The basic information they want to book your iPhone is Your Name, Email-id, Your Mobile no. and Location. Vodafone is published a Advt. in leading newspaers regarding this. In fight for launching iPhone first in India before Bharati Airtel, they won the fight. It was speculated that Vodafone is going to launch iPhone only in December end and Bharat Airtel will launch near around Diwal festival to woo customer. But as it seems Vodafone is started booking from today, so Bharati is lacking behind only.
Riyansh Mundra @ Jun 25, 2008
i love this phone. is iphone3g is also launching in india on 11th july, from where we can buy in delhi or noida, where is authorised seller.
raj dagar @ Jun 25, 2008
Vodafone has started accepting 'bookings' for the iPhone 3G.

The launch date is not confirmed yet.

If it is priced anything above 15K it is not worth the wait or the money.
Nash @ Jun 25, 2008
i fall in love with this phone, the moment i saw its pic.
when is it being aunched in India? & where can i buy it in Delhi?

manish @ Jun 23, 2008
lol..im sorry to burst the bubble..wen i heard abt the price even i got excited...but i think its still worth it..and ppl buyin it jus check with someone in the us before hurrying to buy...
gautam @ Jun 20, 2008
I hav read an article recently which has all the details of the price cut of iphone...the price is just being added by th at&t network..i think they hav hiked 10$ in their service charges..so essentially it will cost the same...and now it seems they are gonna give an activated phone unlike before where you could jus buy the phone off the shelf...so if u wanna unlock it yu will hav to terminate the at&t contract first by payin 200$ so 199+200=399..same price as before...thts the deal for ppl who wanna buy in the us and unlock it here
gautam @ Jun 20, 2008
I pity the ppl who think the iPhone is not worth buying. I've paid 25k n even if sum1 gave me a n95 for free..i'd still buy the iPhone. As far as FM goes..GROW UP ppl..ur getting the best browser,iPod,stocks,weather,maps,5 hrs batttery life,GPS, 3G!!! n ur still crying over fm! Go buy that samsung guru phone then! God bless u!
iPhone worshipper @ Jun 20, 2008
wait for SE Xperia X1. Its really superb. It is business phone as well as a entertainment phone. I dont think iphone will be available for 8000 INR. Even if it comes Airtel or Vodafone will bundle some useless talkplans and internet plans with that which will make the buyer to think again. No FM in iphone is a drawback.
Anand @ Jun 19, 2008
What will be the Indian price of iphone 3Gfor both 8GB and16 GB
Chetan Arun Katre @ Jun 18, 2008
what will be cost of basic iPhone 3G in India , and when it will be lanuched in India.
Prakash Gowda @ Jun 17, 2008
If I buy unlocked iPhone 3G in USA and insert BSNL Postpaid Sim Card will it work? In USA I can buy it at $ 199 which is around 8000 Rupees. Much cheaper than in India.
What additional things / software I need to start using it in India.
C.K. Kolhatkar @ Jun 17, 2008

imtiyaz @ Jun 11, 2008
Its time to hit the mobile arena soon.
Shreyas @ Jun 10, 2008
I only hope after they officially launch the iPhone 3G in India, Apple will open up the iTunes Store to Indian customers. It would be silly harping about cool new apps if those in India cannot access the App Store from here.
Santosh @ Jun 10, 2008
VVVVV
Mr.
You wasted Rs.29K of yours.
I was using iPhine for a week,
And frankly speaking. There is NOTHING special about it.
Initially you'd find the multi touch very intriguing, and you'll soon loose the charm.
=> 29K wasted for a few days of fun.
The only thing i didn't get bored off was the internet surfing on iPhone.
It provides the best experience of surfing net on a phone.
Yatin @ Jun 10, 2008
u noobs have never even used an iphone once in ur life... u use it u wont mind that it lacks some features or that it costs so much i own on and i paid 29k for it but im happy coz it has made my life a hell of a lot simpler
Rushabh Joshi @ Jun 10, 2008
Jokers in India market would sell the same phone for Rs 35K and Rs 55K etc...Our public/consuming Jokers will even buy that silly and expensive product for that price and think as though they have bought Rolex Watch. Products that would be sold in India would be 'specially' made Chineese technology compared to those iPhones manufactured for 'Western' countries!
Amar @ Jun 10, 2008
if you all didnt notice, steve jobs said that 8 GB price will be a maximum of $199 ALL OVER THE WORLD!!! 'nuff said!
VeeDee @ Jun 10, 2008

8. You Cant have personal mp3 Ringtones

You Still Wanna Buy a HiPhone!!!!
Tejash Doshi @ Jun 10, 2008
airtel's bringing it to india.............and i bet it wont cost 8000 buks..............i expect it to be around 18k.....
driftking @ Jun 10, 2008
hey guys the thing is it is gsm enabled hsdpa phone....so it can need not be unlocked ,i.e. it can run on any network!!..thats the bst part
amit @ Jun 10, 2008
It lacks FM the basic item for INDIA
XYZ @ Jun 10, 2008
iPhone 3G is naturally better den da iPhone but it still lacks a proper camera having a 5.0mp or atleast 3.2mp but overall....it has improved a lot n its pricing is gud compared to other smartphones in the da market.
mpb @ Jun 10, 2008
what will new iphone cost in india? n is it worth buying or should we wait for the improved features in iphone.
anirudh @ Jun 10, 2008
a n95 8gb costs 28000 where as an iphone 8gb costs 8000 buks.

This is in the USA with a 2 year service contract with AT & T, where you need to pay a min. of USD 30/month. So do your math and see how cheap this piece of $hit costs.
Ritesh @ Jun 10, 2008
Yet another lousy and substandard product. Even the chinese mobiles have more advanced features than this POS.
Ritesh @ Jun 10, 2008
Actually now jailbraking won't be possible. Cause now Apple and AT & T stores make you activate the phone in the shop itself. So basically you can't walk out of the shop without a contract.
Ashmeet Singh @ Jun 10, 2008
which asshole said its sleek, the size r same as old iphone,
it just has a glossy look and 3g, rest all r the same. about the word and other features like scientific cal, push contact etc r just in the firmware update, these features will be available even in old iphone through firmware update
rahul @ Jun 10, 2008
HUH ??? I heard the entire keynote on life audio stream. Jobs never mentioned Video CALLING, did he ??
Chetan Thaker @ Jun 10, 2008
