Get Ready India, Here Comes the iPhone
By: Shayne Rana   |   Apr 16, 2008

Indian Apple fans can breathe a sigh of relief as a date seems to be near for the iPhone's Indian launch. Come September, Vodafone just might be bringing the legendary handset to the country and no longer will we have to ponder over the big question – WHEN?

It seems European sales are dropping and China Mobile has already said 'no' to being a carrier. The 8GB version of the Vodafone iPhone is expected to arrive in the first week of September, and the price is estimated to be in the range of Rs 28,000 to Rs 30,000.

Although jailbroken iPhones are already available in the country, this is our chance to get a guaranteed genuine iPhone with no need for any messing around, at least to make it workable with a provider. The only difference is it’s available in the gray market for a whole lot cheaper. Stay tuned.

SEPTEMBER??????? That's great! just great! According to our newspapers its supposed to be coming in July 11th 2008, and costs Rs. 8,974(for the 8GB version only)! I don't think many here in India knows this.
Amy Flofire @ Jul 06, 2008
the new iPhone 3G is going to cost $199 in other countries & in India it would cost 30k.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what the hell is going on man...from where does that much price hike come......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if calculated it would barely cost 9-10k...& from where does those extra 20k is added.......this is crazy.....whats th
Farhan Khan @ Jun 22, 2008

shreehari @ Jun 10, 2008

DAMN SLOW
Kapil @ Jun 06, 2008
for 16GB this cost is priety fine, but for 8GB apple should be think again. it sounds good if price is between 15-18K.
anand @ May 19, 2008
i think this should have been done long back.I think the cost of the iphone is lot higher compared to other countries.
shyam @ Apr 20, 2008
those who have money can pay the ransom the indian carriers will charge for that pretty eye candy phone!
ashok pai @ Apr 20, 2008
Go for LG PRADA instead. Has everything that iPhone has, including the looks and design, with a 5 megapixel camera, so its only better.
Haris @ Apr 19, 2008
thank u
t-a-c 2
<tech2> team for accepting ur mistake, and correcting also.
TAKECARE @ Apr 18, 2008
Yippee! Finally the Iphone! After much speculation and queries! Damn they should have realised India's mobile market potential long before. Vodafone is the perfect candidate!!!! Although the sales will be much better if it includes other sim card compatibility and not restrict to vodafone alone- for that you need an apple store! India sure needs one - in any one of the leading metros like chennai or bangalore- the IT hubs of india. Anyway it should also be released with a better imaging function and video funtion too (Higher megapixels and fps) that will make it an nseries killer- what with n 96 releasing around the same time! Hope apple comes with the right decision!!!!!
Aditya C.R @ Apr 18, 2008
I'm sorry for the mistake but i wanted to say that the 'Morph' and not the 'Tube' is a concept design. I would suggest waiting for the Morph than the Tube anyday! Check it out on youtube, just type Nokia Morph, you'll be stunned!
VeeDee @ Apr 17, 2008
I dont suppose Nokia Tube is gonna launch anytime soon! It's still a concept device dudes! Anyways, go get yourselves an iPhone coz in 30k you can get a 16 gig version and theres no point waiting coz i dont suppose anyones gonna like being bound to a carrier!
VeeDee @ Apr 17, 2008
have an 8gb iphone.

it has an amazing GUI and too easy to use especially for the basics like messaging and calling...
and the main thing is i dont need a stylus...one hand for holding as well as typing...
rest the picture quality and Safari is amazing.....
the only regret is radio fm not available....
other than that whatever complaints written in the comments above are just for the sake of complaining ...
believe me its an amzing phone..especially if you love music and like to carry videos with you....
vishal @ Apr 17, 2008
I previously owned a k750i and was looking for iphone...i did a detailed study on the features, and i found iphone to be a crappy device...its just hype and not worth money. I satisfied myself by getting SE p1i for the time being, which is really gr8, god knows what all i installed and did with it...its amazing.....but im really looking into SE Xperia and Nokia tube in future.
Jayson @ Apr 17, 2008
the iphone is a gr8 piece but if its priced at around 30k there wont be many buyers. its again gonna be a case wherein the initial prices are gonna be very high and once the prices drop people will buy it. else the grey market will prosper with the launch. either way the company loses out big time.
A.V.Siddarth @ Apr 17, 2008
ITS TOO LATE TO LAUNCH IN INDIA THIS HANDSET, TECHNOLOGY NOWADAYS VERY VERY FAST GROWING,TRY TO LAUNCH IT BEFORE. AS AND WHEN IT WILL BE LAUNCHING I AM INTERESTED IN BUYING THIS HANDSET SO KINDLY EMAIL OR CONTACT ME WHEN IT COMES.
KAILASH KUMAR SAWALKA @ Apr 17, 2008
Apologies for the spelling mistakes guys, hey... could happen to anyone.
Shayne @ Apr 17, 2008
N if u want de real iphone killer..
Nokia has almost finished its work..
Its now wid de beta testers.. :)
"Nokia Tube" just search for its features..
It ll be running on an exclusively new touchscreen platform..superior to de current s60 v3.1 feature pack 2
it has a 5megapix camera..n lots more..i guess it ll be released almost around de same time..in september or october...
Rohan @ Apr 16, 2008
Iphone s just a hype..Its just a piece of crap if you are looking for a phone wid good functionality..
Cant download anything other than from itunes library..no support for 3rd party softwares(if u have de genuine piece)
Pathetic camera and even widout a video recording!!!
And de accelerometer which they boasted, was brought about by Nokia thru their 5500SPORT
Go forany latest Nokia phone or good Windows Mobile 6.1(dreaming about Sony XPERIA) U ll feel lot more content for de money you spend.. :)
n if u wanna showoff wid least functionality..then iphone is de one for ya..
Rohan @ Apr 16, 2008
i already own two iphones 8gig and 16gig, its just an amazing phone i have ever owned,i dont think any mobile manufacturer like nokia etc can get a killer for iphone, its the next gen phone, everyone must own an iphone
rahul @ Apr 16, 2008
@aman
yo man, unlocked will be more cheaper.ill also go for the unlocked one.its a different feeling altogether screwing apple.
Vaibhav Ahuja @ Apr 16, 2008
I'm gonna buy an iPhone in the end of May from Gaffar Market (New Delhi) as the Genuine will cost a hell lot more whereas I'll get one from there for less than 20k.
Amandeep Singh @ Apr 16, 2008
Even I read alot of comments today in which they pointed out grammatical mistakes by Tech2 team.
Amandeep Singh @ Apr 16, 2008

yogesh @ Apr 16, 2008
Why are the comments deleted when people find out tech2's mistakes in their news.
random @ Apr 16, 2008
Buy a refurb from US for 11k and unlock it online :D

well other thing india has no policy on locked handsets till they require exclusive services like Blackberry.

Let;s who files a petition something which happened in France. For now i am really happy with my N82 :D
Anuj @ Apr 16, 2008
Too expensive for Indian buyers. Just like useless Blackberries this also will be sold only for specified set of buyers who dont mind spending extra bucks - I mean looting from others kind of people!!

No knowledgeable fool will buy this instrument for INR 25K or INR 28K coming September unless he is a stupid executive from a corporations who has no knowledge on technology
Amar @ Apr 16, 2008
i think the company will drop the price to 20k after the so called hype created by iphone enthusiats.
btw shayne, u should check the spelling before the content is published.it hurts to see tech2 in such condition.
