HTC Rocks The Boat With 2 New i-Killers
By: Shayne Rana   |   Sep 11, 2008
HTC already had an i-Killer in their Touch and the much better HTC Touch Diamond. They even took it one step further with the Touch Pro and its slide out QWERTY keypad. It doesn't seem though like that was enough. Their latest offering is a handset that’s yet to make an official scene in some way, and all we have right now are a few candid images of the same.

Reports say that the handset in question, is being referred to as the HTC Touch HD. In case you’re wondering, the HD stands for High Def and the reason it carries that tag is because of the screen resolution that is supposed to support a 480 x 800 pixel resolution. Yup, WVGA. The handset runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and comes equipped with a Qualcomm 7201A processor (@ 528MHz) with 512MB ROM and256 MB RAM (+32MB on processor).

The same reports state that the Touch HD will be equipped with GPS, a 5MP camera with no flash though, microSD card support for extra memory and a 3.5mm earphone socket. According to some of the pics and these reports, there doesn’t seem to be any sort of navigation or scroll pad. Does this mean it’ll be totally touch? We’ll have to wait on that. As of now, it seems this could be one step above the iPhone with no button against the iPhone's singular one. For images click here.

The second handset is a refurbished HTC Touch called the Opal, simply because of its more refined and elegant look. It retains a design similar to the original Touch with a 3D interface like the Diamond. It’ll also be running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. The handset will sport a 2.8-inch TFT touch screen with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution. It supports EDGE, GPRS and of course Wi-fi, but there's no evidence of 3G support in the specs. The handset will also be equipped with a 2MP camera.

There’s no word on the availability of these handsets as they are not featured on the official HTC websites. Thankfully our sources help us keep you updated. Stay Tuned.

In India, the iphone killer is the iphone itself, by virtue of its pricing. 31k & 36k. How many people are going to buy it? HTC and other brands making touch-screen phones at much lower prices will surely benefit.

Apple, I think you got it all wrong in India.

The iphone is dead, long live the iphone.

Who cares about the price tag around here in India now that the iPhone totally annihilated the competitive pricing strategies....

HTC Touch HD will be the iPhone killer if they can manage to sell the product before end of this year with a competitive price tag (which is very difficult to achieve considering HTC price ranges!).

HTC is proving to be the real competitor for iPhone and they are really fast enough to hit the market with their new set of phones.

HTC Touch HD is a sure winner and I feel it can change the PDA market drastically, provided if they have smart tie-ups with local operators to subsidise the pricing level.
