Digg Launches Version 3.0 To Combat Competition
By: Priyanka Pradhan   |   Jun 23,2006
Popular news site Digg.com has pulled up its socks, thanks to competition from NetScape and others who have jumped on to the news portal bandwagon. While Digg is still among the most popular sites for online technology news, the re-launch of Netscape seems to have pushed it into a makeover.

The new version of Digg, will include several new categories besides technology, including world events, business, entertainment, science and gaming. The version will also allow users to bookmark video files, customize the main page of the site and select the categories that interest them, discarding the rest.

As Digg has primarily been a techno geek favorite, the move to include more categories is being looked at with a little apprehension. Jay Adelson, chairman and chief executive of Digg says that they have been under a lot of pressure from the user base for over a year now, to expand to different areas of content.

Will it dilute the focused 1.3 million viewership? Will the new version help in expanding the audience? Or will the move fall flat on its face? Lots of questions, one launch date: 26 June
