Ford Cars to Use Microsoft OS
By: Nikhil Singh   |   Dec 31, 2006
Ford Motor reportedly plans on integrating Bluetooth wireless technologies with their line of cars. They will accomplish this by using 'Sync', Microsoft's operating system (OS) designed specifically for wireless Bluetooth connectivity.

Such wireless technology could give you access to your daily technological needs such as hands-free mobile connectivity, accessing your e-mail, and downloading music, while you're on the road. They plan on utilizing this technology with the Five Hundred sedans and the Ford Focus initially.

By 2008 however, Ford hopes to give the 'Sync' option to all of their cars. There will be more unveiled about the 'Sync' OS in the Detroit Auto Show and the Consumer Electronic Show in January 2007.

Linux is better off as OS in cars. Jake rivers is right-i cant imagine what would happen if you turn off your car without "shutting down"

I see this car literly crashing each time it blue screens or goes with out a daily reboot. They need to contact ixsystems and put a real os on it such as pc-bsd, linux, or bsd

So, how long until this technology also monitors and controls important vehicle functions? I don't want to have to restart my car's computer every time it crashes, especially while driving. Microsoft technology is simply not bulletproof enough to be put in a vehicular environment.
