By the end of the year almost 70-80% of the processors sold in the desktop, mobile and the server space will be multi-core processors and to realize the potential of these processors, applications need to be multi-threaded i.e. instead of having a serial approach used in earlier single core processors, work has to be intelligently divided and assigned to individual cores for faster performance. Code-optimization for multi-core processors becomes even more important as, manufacturers are slowing down the rate at which the processor speeds are increased to keep the processors cool.
Intel, as the current market leader for manufacturing processors, realizes this and has begun a series of software seminars, with Hyderabad being the first destination. The day long tech forum is aimed at India’s software developers, enabling them to understand and harness the power of multi-core parallelism, which in turn will enable them to efficiently create reliable, high-performance threaded applications. The series will expand to cover other Indian cities this year and the messaging and technology content in these forums will be around Multi-core and various stages that a software developer needs to reach to reach new heights in threaded application performance.
At the event, Intel announced the availability of two software products that help developers efficiently create more reliable, high-performing applications that speed up a computer’s responsiveness. The Intel C++ Compiler and Fortran Professional Editions bring together a unique combination of highly optimizing compilers, performance libraries and the Intel Threading Building Blocks. These new products help developers create reliable, high-performance applications, and have now been enhanced for the latest multi-core processors – Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Core 2 Quad – and newest operating systems - Microsoft Vista, Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Fedora Core.
Intel is also providing a technology showcase to its channel partners at the Intel Software Seminar. The channels will interact and connect with the software developers at the forum and share ideas and technologies that circumvent the technology industry today.
