Kerala IT Firms Booked For Software Piracy

A three-member team from the legal department of Microsoft Corp inspected a few computer software companies here Thursday and found widespread use of pirated software.

Speaking to IANS, superintendent of police Arun Kumar Sinha confirmed that the legal wing of Microsoft had registered a complaint with them and sought assistance for conducting raids.

"Our officials assisted the Microsoft team in the raid at a few firms in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts," Sinha said.

"We have found widespread use of their pirated software. The police has registered a case under the Copyright Act against the IT firms that have violated the rule of law," said Sinha.

MS did the right thing.they are working hard to make software and chrge money for the work they have done.what`s wrong with it?if anyone is working hard so that they get some money and u see that your product is being sold by another person illegally no one will feel great.

5 years ago when a PC was costing about 40K +, the cost of windows OS was around 5k. Now you can get a PC below 15k. but the cost of Windows OS is still 3.5K +. Microsoft has to bring down the price or users should move to Linux.

Everyone should have done the wise thing earlier!!!!! Shift to Linux !!!! Let those MS scumbags play with their own toys!!! I hope this is a wakeup call for everyone!!! first firms next homes i guess!!! i hope everyone flushes Microsoft products down the loo !!!!!

There are dozens of companies within Technopark (India's so-called green park) who don't even have money to buy legal software! when is MS visiting them?

What is wrong with what MS is doing? And, why should they give us free software? It is not like they are doing a charity service here?
If you don't like paying for software, use Linux. And ensure you have a 24/7 helpline just incase you wanna install some software!

I recently started using Ubuntu Linux. It is not only easy but also provides loads of software. All this for free.

I have been mainly using Windows in my College and Office. However, in my home computer, I am using Ubuntu Linux and Open Office.

The best thing is that you can use documents created in MS-Office with Open Office. Also, I have experienced that browsing is much faster in Ubuntu Linux.

it will never go linux coz linux just can't get it right. it's possible to make any software user-friendly, even linux, but if that happens, the geeks will no longer feel smarter and special so they won't allow it.

This action will surely cause some retail assemblers in Kerala to switch to Linux and open source softwares and some may resort to buying original windows and distributing them at proper costs,which most users are likely to disagree...
So,this action will act as a catalyst for faster spread of linux into the non-geeks homes too...

wow... tens of thousands of indians flocking to mumbai for a chance in a movie role and they give a pakistani the lead role... jai hind... and on top of that he asks for an 8 crore pay check when most of the top bollywood actors dont get that much??? our producers are willing to give that too.. awesome i should say. first it was britishers when india was on top... now everyone else...

Kerala IT firms should embrace linux and open office ..I doubt whether the police officials are using genuine windows in their homes..This action was conducted in a very unprofessional way..Google please give us an operating system soon..
