Skype, the leader in P2P VoIP has decided to beef up its engineering team through strategic acquisitions of VoIP companies Sonorit Holding and its U.S. subsidiary, Camino Networks, for 700,000 shares of eBay stock, worth about $27 million.
Sonorit and Camino are small companies with specialization in speech processing and coding, as well as IP-based transmissions. Camino's products are targeted toward mobile IP networks, and therefore this is a logical move for Skype who is expected to aggressively pursue the mobile VoIP market.
