At a presentation at a conference in Las Vegas, analysts Michael Silver and Neil MacDonald have said that Microsoft is struggling with its flagship products as it is overburdened by nearly two decades of legacy code and on the spot decisions to scuttle controversial upgrades. It will also face serious competition on a whole host of fronts that will make Windows a has-been unless the software developer acts now to remedy the problems it faces.
The massive footprint of the 20 year old codebase makes it impossible to run with lower powered devices such as the new ULPC (ultra low cost pc) market.
