Desktop Publishing major Adobe has released the final version of Flash Player 9, which the company claims offers ten times better performance through ActionScript 3.0 and a new ActionScript Virtual Machine. The update is the cornerstone for Flex 2.0, Adobe's new line of developmental tools.
These new releases are intended to promote the use of Flash in next-generation Web applications. It seeks to head off the AJAX juggernaut, which is garnering much of the spotlight, Flash is finding slow but sure mass acceptance and is already used in a variety of services, including Yahoo! Maps and Google Finance.
The Mac releases are Intel Mac native, i.e. no Rosetta required.
