BSNL Offers 2Mbps Net Connectivity in 2007
By: Priyanka Pradhan   |   Dec 15, 2006
State owned telecom operator and Internet Service Provider (ISP), BSNL has announced that it will provide broadband speed of up to 2 Megabits Per Second (Mbps), to all its existing subscribers. BSNL broadband subscribers, who have been offered internet connectivity of 256 kilobits Per Second until now, will be liable for the speed upgrade in early 2007.

Announcing the move, the Communication and IT Minister, Dayanidhi Maran, said that the year 2007 will be christened as the 'Year of Broadband' in India.

He said BSNL has offered this aggressive plan of providing five million broadband connections in 2007, with minimum download speed of 1 Mbps, as a challenge for private operators.

i want know the tarif details about this offer ,
we are able to efford up to 300rupees per mounth.
bharathkumar @ Jan 07, 2007
is this available for the cli method.do u provide this facility in towns
Irfan @ Jan 05, 2007
GUYS this is funny, no where in the world, we are charged for traffic. This offer is little tricky, as virus can cause tons of traffic the user ends up paying huge money since the specified limits will cross very soon.

Anyways, will feel happy, if the ceiling for traffic is lifted.

PS: WHATS THE OFFER FROM COMPETITORS???

Regards

It is really a good idea of increasing the speed of broadband. But it would be appreciated if upper limit of 400 MB may is increased to at least 1 GB for plan 250. For students doing IT related studies depend on internet resources. There are many books providing websites for related resources. Also many latest informative resources are available and accessable via internet only.

Everybody cannot afford costly packages. A business man/woman can go for costly broadboand packages any time as per per his/her need.

It is my humble request to consider this as a need for curious students accessing websites.

With warm regards
Ratul

Rumored BSNL Broadband packages starting from next year

I wonder how dey plan to make up dis scheme, wat happens to de 384kbps to 1Mbps user? till 256 Unlimited its ok, but wat happens to de other users??how is dis scheme going to look, coz i paid 1 year for unlimited n if i dont get dis upgrade its going to really sad....
Sajith @ Dec 28, 2006
This 2007 offer is very good, but big drawback in BSNL is limited free time browsing hours. Since comparing to other private broadband providers provide free hours more than 8 hours but bsnl lack in these limited free browsing hours. if bsnl increase the free hours, then no one look out of bsnl service
dhamotharan @ Dec 27, 2006
Such high speed is mainly required by the movie, game software downloaders. So if bsnl can make WLAN accessable all over the calcutta and a server which will allow P2P clients to transfer without actually going to the internet. The local connection will be the capacity of the wlan card and the internet will remail free for developers and software profetionals like me. Who can work on web pages as if developing desktop aplication on a desktop computer which compiles and runs at the press of F5 ( the download and upload takes no time ).
Debashis Bose @ Dec 25, 2006
Show us the right package, do they have unlimited packages. What about service I mean the necessary trained field staff. Do I have to carry in the modem for service after a thunderstorm????????? How many hurdles do i have to cross for service.
Do they have the necessary infra stratructure in place for this in a place like Kerala to offer this speed.
I am still skeptical
Thomas @ Dec 24, 2006
i get only 0.4 GB per month @ 250 bucks... Well, I will only finish my quota of bandwidth much more faster...

Not very useful to me... unless BSNL also revises the bandwidth upwards..

P.S. BSNL, you want to see the spread of broadband, then give us some bandwidth... Please...0.4gigs is toooooo low
CyberMatrix13 @ Dec 24, 2006

N.Prakash @ Dec 21, 2006
BSNL should have increase the quality &data speed of their GPRS service for mobile.Beacuse we are not satisfied with today's quality and speed of GPRS.
Uttam Adhikari. @ Dec 18, 2006
great news maran... u rock... great going guys...
Hemanth Kumar .V @ Dec 18, 2006
If this is true.. then BSNL will have heck of a competition and also more number of user will join BSNL... 2Mbps is going to be tough and competitive for BSNL.. lets see what happens
Yathi @ Dec 17, 2006
hi,
if iam not hard of hearing i heard they said "at no extra cost to the existing subscriber" and it was well quoted that currently people have to pay rs.3000 for such a speed on bsnl broadband.

so hang on guys, Broardband Year 2007 will gve you a lot, but of coure you would need a lot of money to pay for bandwidth if you still hangon to Rs.500 plan.

see ya,
manu
manu_pk @ Dec 17, 2006
wat about the monthly rentals???? is it goin to start with the same Rs250/-?????
shadab @ Dec 17, 2006
Great news i'm eagerly waiting for more information on this !!!
Varun @ Dec 17, 2006
Even now, BSNL provides 256 kbps unlimited.and bloody MTNL provides 256 kbps only for 8 hrs a day and also, BSNL is much cheaper too.
This new scheme is simply superb.MTNL are you listening?
Bharat @ Dec 16, 2006

To achieve the target bsnl will have to provide following
1. unlimited access ( no limit as in rs 900 home plan )
2. universal homeplan at 500 rs per month.
if there is a limit of 1 gb , how many hours one will be able to use.
most people in india d'ont know the limit, they feel net is free they will use it for hours , there bill going into thousands and lacs.
if rental is higher than 500rs ,most people will be unable to afford.
my son is in usa getting more than 2mb speed ,unlimited access at rs
600 approx in INR.
earlier you follow the suggetion better it is , if your wnt to achieve the target, as more than rs.500 per month will take you far away from target,as other broadbend services are avialable

dr.ashok kumar agrawal @ Dec 16, 2006
If Only MTNL would do the same!
TRAI shouldallow BSNL into Mumbai and Delhi to increase competition....
