BSNL To Invest Rs. 20 Bn For Broadband

State-run telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will invest Rs.20 billion to set up its broadband infrastructure to proliferate in urban and rural areas across India.

"BSNL has an ambitious plan to proliferate broadband in both urban and rural areas across the country in a progressive manner," Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Shakeel Ahmed told the Rajya Sabha Thursday.

Adding that the customer base of BSNL today is almost 877,000, Ahmed said: "With effect from Jan 1, 2007, all broadband customers, except customers with unlimited plan, have been upgraded to 2 mbps (mega bytes per second) at the existing tariff (Rs. 250 per month), subject to technical feasibility."

The minister said BSNL was deploying Wi-Max in rural areas where it is difficult to offer broadband connection over copper lines.

investin 20bn is not an issue..first they should give the connection of broadband in the given time..i submitted my application before on month on feb5..and didnt get the broadband yet..
