MAC 07: NTT DoCoMo All Set For 4G!
By: Tech2.com News Staff   |   Nov 13, 2007
While we're celebrating the announcement of 3G services in India, the Japanese are already field testing 4G wireless services.

Masao Nakamura, President & CEO of pioneering Japanese telco NTT DoCoMo told the audience at the Mobile Asia Congress 2007 in Macau, that NTT's 4G trials have been on since December 2006.

Nakamura said that a 12-antenna base station had successfully transmitted 5 Gigabits per second to a 12 antenna receiver using MIMO (Multiple-input and multiple-output) technology. 4G Networks are expected to be the norm in Japan by 2010 and will guarantee speeds of 1 Gbps, allowing users, for instance, to download a full-length movie in about 3-5 seconds.

Hmm...criticize and criticize...really it is so simple to take pants off of our ministers sitting on a coasy chair or bedroom completely at ease. My dear readers, please let me ask a simple question? How many of you have accessed different WAP based portals or the 3rd Party Portals hosted on Operator's Network. Secondly, how many of us have actually used Mobile Office or GPRS ever or connected to intenet on PC through a Mobile Phone. Thirdly, how many of us have been using Broad Band Connection at Home...There are the questions first we need to answer.

Also, we need to understand the cost implication of upgrading to 4G even before having 3G or HSPDA in India.Lets wait and watch the world test different things and then we will take the cream...

If India is to catch up with the rest of the world in technology, ministers need to finalize crucial decisions at the earliest. The whole process of 3G spectrum allocation in India has taken a lot more time than needed. Many Asian and Latin American countries are fast eating up outsourcing pie. We need to move up and be a more competitive player in hardware manufacturing and cutting edge technology, like 4G.
