Diwali has sent the LCD TV shoppers into a frenzy by putting out good brand 32” LCD TVs at an all-time lows like Rs. 50,000 (Videocon) and Rs. 60,000 (LG), but that’s still too steep for most of us. I think what the Indian masses need is something like what O’ZZIO has announced. The Japanese company’s new model in its StyleVision series LCD TVs is the HDV-32B1, a 32” HD ready TV that will cost a mere Rs. 30,000 (converted price). Put some duties and other taxes, but even after that it probably won’t go beyond Rs. 40,000 if someone imports it the right way. The TV does 720p native (1366x768 resolution), offers a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 176 degrees viewing angle, a low 8ms reponse time, takes in HDMI, component video, S-video, and even has 10-watt stereo speakers to complete it all.

Right now, the cheapest LCD TVs are the 20” ones that aren’t even 720p – they are 4:3 aspect ratio, 800x600 resolution TVs – and they go for between Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000. If someone brings O’ZZIO into India, then things are going to change a serious bit.
