Myspace Offers Copyright Protection Tool

Controversial social networking website, MySpace.com is developing an Enhanced Copyright Protection tool, which will make it easier to spot and remove unauthorized content in the site. The tool is currently being tested with FOX and MLB Advanced Media, but will include other copyright holders soon.

The enhanced copyright tool will allow copyright holders to digitally flag any user-posted video containing content that they own and claim to be unauthorized. MySpace will then remove all videos flagged by the copyright holder and even block videos that are removed at the request of a copyright owner from being re-uploaded to the site by other users. The company has taken this step in compliance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Chris DeWolfe, CEO and co-founder of MySpace said, "MySpace is firmly committed to protecting copyright holders' rights. This is another important step we're taking to ensure that those who create and own content are able to protect it."
