Wii Will, Wii Will Rock you!
By: Avinash Bali   |   Jun 10,2006
When Nintendo announced a name change for their next-gen console from the Revolution to the Wii, people made all sort of jokes, sexual puns and more, but the fact remains that nearly everyone and their mums knew what the Wii was, proving the age old proverb that there's no such thing as bad publicity.

When contacted recently, Nintendo head honcho Satoru Iwata says that he has absolutely no regrets in naming the console Wii as he feels as long as the product is good, the name will catch on eventually. According to him and the rest of Nintendo, the name of the console itself bears testament to the fact that the console is meant for everyone, irrespective of age or sex.

He furthers goes on to say that the GameBoy too received a fair amount of criticism when it was introduced in the 80s, but that didn't stop girls from gaming from it.

According to Iwata, the Wii isn't directly competing with Sony or Microsoft as they plan on offering different and extremely simple games bundled with their "O' so unique controller".

Props to Nintendo for sticking with their guns!

[...] As of now this remains a rumor, and since Nintendo is known to stick to their guns, I doubt we would see a name change anytime soon (ever). [...]

I'll love it if the Wii controller allows swordplay or fencing! That'll be real cool!

well the Wii isn't as powerful as the 360 or the PS3,at least it'll be on a low price and it'll save u money on the bill. The graphics aren't next generation but it's enough.

I think that the wii will show people that power and graphics don't really matter at all.I mean back then they didn't care much about graphics.look at the gameboy it was black and white and it still beat the game gear even though the game gear was more power ful then the gameboy .
All i'm hoping for is the Wii to be alot better then the gamecube because the gamecube had mostly boring games

besides, is not like raw horsepower will make a game great. i mean, sure, graphics need to be good also, but is not all there is to a game

All i hear from the rest of the world is: "It sucks because is not as powerfull as a 360, or ps3." In my opinion, raw power plays a secondary roll. i mean how many of you think "woah, that dual core procesor chip is really making my game an awesome experience"? seriously, i assure you that the first few toughts you have are "how u play this, what does the CONTROLER do" and then you think about raw power. i am willing to put money to that.
Also, nintendo said it themselves "we are not compeating against them", so why keep comparing them?
