Ever wondered why Halo 3 has so many jaggies? The anti-aliasing may be off, but the game’s been upscaled from a rather unusual resolution – 1152x640 (640p!) to the HD 720p resolution of 1280x720. Here’s Bungie’s statement on the same:
The reason we chose this slightly unorthodox resolution and this very complex use of two buffers is simple enough to see – lighting. We wanted to preserve as much dynamic range as possible – so we use one for the high dynamic range and one for the low dynamic range values. Both are combined to create the finished on screen image.
In fact, if you do a comparison shot between the native 1152x640 image and the scaled 1280x720, it’s practically impossible to discern the difference. We would ignore it entirely were it not for the internet’s propensity for drama where none exists. In fact the reason we haven’t mentioned this before in weekly updates, is the simple fact that it would have distracted conversation away from more important aspects of the game, and given tinfoil hats some new gristle to chew on as they catalogued their toenail clippings.
The game’s lighting is in fact remarkable, but the jaggies are also really apparent which makes you cringe during a few scenes in the single player campaign. The multiplayer on the whole seems a lot better, and the gameplay in both modes more than make up for the visual flaws in the game. Nash and I have been hooked on to the Halo 3 MP since while now, and we love every bit of it. Stay tuned to Tech2.com for a review of the same.

The only reason I took to abusing a dumb fk like you is because your so called criticism has absolutely no bearing and is totally pointless. While Reteesh took the pain staking effort of explaining things to you, you still seem to have missed the point making me believe that you'Â’re not very comfortable with English.
Criticism has always been welcome here provided it makes sense and not on the lines of "OMG you guys copy paste from Gamespot". Just because a Gamespot or an IGN carries a particular news item, it doesn't mean no one else on the internet can publish that very story.
If that still doesn't make any sense to you, IÂ’ll be more than happy to break it down to you in your native language as well.

Its like you telling that Times of India is copying from the Hindu when they put a news that India won the 20-20 WC. which had the same quotes from the captain of the team (duh! they wont change the things that people say!)
The part other than the quotes are the views of the news poster that are different from others'.Its not called copying.

No one's copying news from Gamespot; it's just that the same stories get circulated all over the net so why don't you STFU and go get hit by a truck or something.

One is done using High Dynamic Range (HDR) which gives the lighing effects taking the even light sources in the game which are very far away in the level into consideration
Another one is without using HDR as in considering only the closer sources of lights for lighting
So.. combining them both gave them a nice finished look, since they took the advantages of both...
HDR alone takes up a lot of computational power.. and doing BOTH surely takes more power.. hence they lowered the resolution to something that the 360's GPU and CPU can handle with no frame drops.
Well, atleast thats what I understood :P

I wish that the guys at Tech2 would decode all this high level language and make us understand the real meaning.
Although what i have understood is that the resolutions have almost the same aspect ratio and so there shouldn't be any problems for regular TVs. I am not really sure if what i've written is correct ;)
