Conan the Barbarian may be able to decimate most men without even working up a sweat but he hasn’t had a lot of luck when it comes to video games. Most of his games including the more recent Conan: The Dark Axe for the Xbox and PS2 have been branded dull/repetitive hack and slash titles. Now I know a game like Conan can’t be the most sensible game on the planet but all of them lacked any sort of spark games like God War or Ninja Gaiden boasted of.
Now before I continue with the preview there’s one thing I need to clear up and that is, this game shouldn’t be confused with the MMORPG Conan that’s being developed by Funcom; Conan for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 will be a true hack and slash (let’s hope it isn’t as boring) and from what we’ve seen so far, could be the definitive Conan game.
Even though details regarding the game’s plot are scarce at this time, we do know that the game will take place before the time when Conan was king and will capture the raw and primal essence of the barbarian in all his gory glory. To ensure this, developer Nihilistic has made sure every enemy encounter in this game will be as blood soaked as possible so if you’re not a fan of the red stuff you may want to avoid this game like the plague. Using a plethora of weapons from swords to spears to axes and more Conan will be able to slice, dice, maim and mutilate his way through hordes of enemies.
