All of us have indulged in a bit of free roaming goodness from time to time; some of us started at an early age with Urban Chaos (love that game) or Mafia, while some came in at the time when Grand Theft Auto (III and beyond) not only dominated, but redefined the whole genre. In case you haven’t been too impressed with what you’ve seen so far, you’ll be glad to know that game developers are figuring out newer ways to grant players the freedom they’ve always craved, thanks to the gigantic technological leaps in recent times and that, ladies and gentlemen is where developer Realtime Worlds comes in with their sandbox of a game AKA Crackdown. The reason I feel this game has a lot of potential is because it’s been developed by a studio formed by David Jones, the very same dude behind the first GTA game.
Crackdown boasts of a pretty clichéd plot that’ll revolve around cleaning up the streets of Pacific City, a fictional city overrun by three gangs; the Los Muertos, the Volks, and the Asian Shai Gens. Striving to put an end to this corruption is a law enforcement agency called umm... The Agency (I kid you not) who hires you, a genetically enhanced super soldier of sorts to help them out in their time of need.
