Samsung's L-series cameras have never proved as exciting as the NV series, yet this time the L100 manages to pull off much more than I expected. If you consider its features you'll get your money’s worth, but the performance is a bit dodgy all the same.
Let’s start with the form factor. Over the past few years, Samsung has truly excelled in good design. The L100isn't jazzy enough to exude that exclusive flair, but it's been tarted up to give you what you'd justifiably expect from an ultra-compact camera.
The back of the camera sports a 2.5-inch LCD screen with an intelligent feature that increases or decreases the brightness level, depending on the lighting conditions. This works well enough, although in direct sunlight it will most definitely blank out.
Beside the screen you will find a host of regular buttons, which includes the zoom toggle switch and the navigation pad – which also offers a one-touch access to features such as burst mode, flash, macro mode and suchlike. The mode dial sits on top of the camera, right in between the shutter release (on the right) and the power on/off button.
