Connectivity freaks won't be disappointed with the options in this one. The back of the panel boasts two HDMI input ports and two component ports, so you have a good variety of options to connect all the next gen gear. The back also has audio out and optical out for connecting to an external sound system. Lastly it has composite in for input from your digital cable service and an RF in (Gasp!), in case you're really clueless about how this stuff works.
As always the left of the display panel also has some of the quick connectivity options namely composite, S-Video and a headphone out. Digital photography enthusiasts will appreciate the direct memory card inputs found right above the inputs, along with a Pict-Bridge in, for viewing pictures in true high-definition.
Samsung displays have always been generous with customization features and the LA46F7 is no different. You can set the display to your liking and also set options for PIP.
We tested the LA46F7 with the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Samsung's very own Blu-Ray player (BD-P1000). While the Blu-Ray videos had the first generation issues, its the videogames where the display shone. The reason I say that about the Blu-Ray is that since the technology is relatively new, I assume it will take a while before we see the Blu-Ray video quality mastering at its peak. The S.W.A.T Blu-Ray movoe we received looked great in high-def, but the film grain was highly visible throughout the movie, which was a bit of a bummer.
Overall, the sharpness of the video and the overall crispness was easily visible when we took the jump from 720p to 1080p. In the case of PlayStation 3, unfortunately, the jaggies too were clearer due to the higher resolution, which marred my experience a bit in games like Revolution and Gran Turismo HD. Still, the overall viewing experience left little to desire.
As I mentioned earlier, the LA46F7 comes at a hefty price of Rs. 2 lakhs. But when you look at it logically, the 40" Sony Bravia comes at Rs. 1 lakh 50 thousand which only goes up to 720p (and 1080i), so Rs. 50 thousand extra for another 6 inches and true HD resolution doesn't seem like too bad a deal. Highly recommended... to those who can afford it of course.
