Performance
The first thing I noticed after wearing these was the comfort, but once the noise cancellation was switched on, I heard a not-so-comforting circuit noise. I’m pretty sure a less discerning listener will hear it too, so I don’t get the point of having a NC circuit that is noisy. I decided not to use the NC circuit at all henceforth. Points will have to be cut for this, naturally. Just as I was getting to like the product too!
Moving on, the sound wasn't bad; there was an element of clarity in the highs, though the thickness and crispness of mid frequencies was missing. Lows were average to decent, but I fear some boominess was present in the low mids. We were listening to all types: the good recordings of Sheffield and Supreme Audiophile series, to some humble MP3s. The sound was better in the latter case, as expected.
Conclusion
Considering the price tag of Rs 2499, I feel the sound this pair delivers is average to decent, though the noise cancellation circuit should be bypassed totally. The HN-505 can thus be a nice pair to have at work or while listening to music at at your desktop.
