Plantronics Voyager 510

Comfortable
Great sound quality and reach
God-awful expensive
Mic sticks out

The thing with a lot of Bluetooth headsets is that they tend to stick out a lot; that too in a bad way. There are some that stay close to your ear without trying too hard to reach your mouth, and look respectably private. Then there are others that make you look like a call centre executive or an airline pilot who's forgotten to take off his headset. The design of the Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth headset lies somewhere between those two.

The Voyager 510 puts the weight of the headset at the back of the ear and keeps things light on the visible part of the headset (the part that goes over your ear and extends to the cheek). But it does stick out and has quite a long extension from the ear speaker to the mic, which makes it look a bit obtrusive. That aside, the headset's very comfortable. The Voyager 510 fits all ear sizes comfortably, and after a few minutes you won't even feel it.

Voyager 510 supports the Bluetooth Headset Profile, so you can use it with your cellphone or even hook this up with your computer and use it with VoIP services like Skype.

Sound quality is great, whether you're indoors or outdoors. The signal strength was quite strong even when I put my cell phone in a bag while using the headset. Overall the sound clarity was quite high on both ends even on medium volume settings.

My biggest gripe with Voyager 510 (besides the way its mic sticks out) is that the buttons are small and not easy to use, especially considering that you may not be able to see them once you wear them. The power-on button is miniscule in size, making it tough for a normal sized adult hand to use it. Even though the “call-accept” button is a bit bigger, it blends into the headset a bit to well to be easily usable.

The price for the headset (as confirmed by Plantronics' PR agency) is a whopping Rs. 16,000. 'Expensive' just doesn't cut it.
