Introduction
These days, 42-inch TVs fit just fine in the large screen format; they're not too large and expensive, but neither are they so small that you wonder what the point is. LG is a popular brand making almost everything electronic (except electronic music) and their stuff is good most of the time.

This time they sent us a new LCD flatscreen TV, a 42-incher called the 42LC7R. Released globally just a short while ago, this is the next in line after their full HD lineup, and positions itself as a part of the company's new range of LCDs and Plasmas for 2007.

The product has already received a good amount of critical acclaim. It's our turn to see whether it can deliver the goods – or this is just another brick in the wall, or rather another pixel in the panel?

Design and Features
Right out of the box, this model comes with annoying plastic stickers on the side of the frame. After they were removed we proceeded to look it up, then hook it up.

Aesthetically the 42LC7R is quite satisfying for the discerning interior design enthusiast, as the dark tone used for the stand and the frame are quite different from the silver-and-black combination used by competition. The finish is glossy black, and a silver thin strip adorns the bottom edge of the frame. Below this is a single horizontal speaker cabinet, which in my opinion is better than having two on either side.

The shiny LG logo is ubiquitous, placed bang in the center of the bottom panel, while the whole frame is embedded with the screen on the regular gray plastic for the chassis. This one has fewer grooves, and quite a simple, scarce looking connection rack. That doesn’t mean this model doesn’t offer copious connectivity; it features 2 HDMI, 2 Component, and of course composite, S-video and VGA inputs.

A separate set is included on the side for quick connections, which has become the norm nowadays.
