View Specifications
After being a relatively bashful brand in the mobile phone segment, LG has seemingly turned its focus on the lifestyle aspect. The Viewty is one such example of the company’s penchant for embellishing its devices. This phone looks very chic, probably in an attempt to take on some high-end lifestyle devices such as the iPhone and the N95.
At 103.5 x 54.4 x 14.8 mm, the phone is thin enough to be able to be pocketed comfortably, and weighs about 112g, which is the only thing that could give away its presence. The Viewty sports a 3-inch wide TFT touchscreen that can show up to 256K colors with a capable resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. Isn’t that cool?
The phone has well-defined contours and is a perfect blend of silver and black. Special care has been taken to keep the face bare by eliminating the need to have buttons, no matter how rudimentary. It has only three keys just below the screen: Call, Cancel and Back.
The right side of the phone has dedicated camera buttons, while the USB, charger, and earphones slot come equipped with a slide shutter on the left. Now, the rear of this baby deserves a special mention. Hugging the camera is a jog dial that's as fashionably insensitive as you can get. I like the idea of having to work up the volume of music or zoom in and out while using the camera using the jog dial, but not at the expense of comfort. The positioning of the jog dial may look cool, but is far from ergonomic, since half of the time your finger will block the lens’ line of vision while using the camera.
There are two things that will make you proud to own this phone: the 5 MP camera and the touchscreen. Speaking of the latter, the whole interface has been designed to allow users to use their fingertips, as in the iPhone. This is good, except the touchscreen isn’t very responsive. If you compare this phone with others in the same price bracket, there is no denying that the Viewty touchscreen takes a beating. A special menu screen can be recalled when needed by swiping your finger on the screen, in an entirely hit-or-miss affair.
The company has included a fat stylus the size of a lipstick. Not cool! While writing a message, if you are intent on using your finger, the on-screen buttons are bigger than usual but requires you to grow your nails for maximum effect. Not a hygienic option though. Having said this, let me just add that messaging on this phone is a painful ordeal.

answers to many of the questions ->
The Phone is awesome not better than iphone.
The touch isnt that sensitive but it works well once ur used to it.
The cam is great.
We dont have that much WiFi spaces here so that drawback also dosnt matter for ppl like me.
Ext memory is limited to 2gb. that can be counted as negative point.
somebody down here said LG proprietary OS. this OS is fully designed using flash. the phone has awesome compatibily with FLASH... u can do whatever u want. also phone has JAVA support. so jar files work just fine. there is huge variety in games for touchscreen that works on this phone.
There are softwares for inbuilt GPS also.
i think this took care of most of the question.
about the msg memory.. i cant find the solution on that yet.

manan @ Feb 26,2008
as far as use of stylus is concerned...GUI of viewty is designed in such a manner tht it doesn't need use of stylus and so only no stylus is attached within the phone casing

why u ppl want to limit urself only for 1-2 features which are hyped by brands...see the gadget as a whole
jst do the price vs feature analysis and try to justify urself whther tht particular device is worth purchasing.
but yes, HTC touch cruise is a good device but it is yet to be launched in india and would be around 27K INR.
list of good phones in this price range is as follows:
1) SE P1i - 19K INR
2) LG viewty - 21K INR
3) HP IPAq 612 - 25K INR
4) HTC touch cruise - 27K INR

this is an excellent phone....iphone stands nowhere in front of it...jst do a simple thing...compare features offered by iphone vis-a-vis listed in my comments below and u will then realize the difference.......the only good thing i find in iphone is the multi-finger touch sensing and safari browser....which makes one happy for not more than initial 2-3 days....other than this there are no goodies of iphone....and when you will search on issues, bugs in software, and updates released till date you will hate iphone.
as far as use of stylus is concerned...GUI of viewty is designed in such a manner tht it doesn't need use of stylus and so only no stylus is attached within the phone casing.

Apple iPhone and HTC Touch can be operated with one hand and that too with a THUMB. Stylus is now obsolete technology.

The only gripes:
1) No Wi-Fi
2) LG’s proprietary OS (i.e. difficult to find and install third party applications)
3) No GPS
4) No packaged external memory card
but doesn’t matter much against following features:
1) Elegant executive ‘go-fida’ look (the best one)
2) EDGE, HSDPA 3.6mbps, quad band
3) 3” display with 200x400 resolution
4) 262K colour TFT Touch Screen
5) Camera: 5.1 MP, with manual focus and autofocus, with image stabilizer and red eye reduction, with Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens, with gazzab ke other features (a real digicam with 3” touch screen display….just imagine)
6) 16x digital zoom
contd....
yash @ Feb 22,2008
18) FM radio (no RDS)
19) Front camera for video calls
20) Handwriting recognition
21) General PIM application
yash @ Feb 22,2008
7) Video recording at 120 fps (as compared to 15 to 30 fps in even good camcoders)
8) DivX support (i.e. for DVD quality movies)
9) TV out
10) Good music quality
11) Web browsing with webpage zooming (can’t explain in words…just excellent)
12) Bluetooth 2.0ver (high speed) with A2DP (i.e. wireless music and multimedia transfer)
13) Google package for all google applications like google maps etc.
14) 100MB internal memory; external expandable upto 2GB
15) Email support (SMTP, POP3, IMAP4, and APOP protocols) with attachments viewing
16) Big numeric keypad for calls and qwerty keyboard (landscape mode, vibration on each key press for acknowledgement, and zooming of the character pressed) for text entry
contd....

@Nonoob.
the 120 FPS recording can be played back at a normal 30 FPS. This alows very clear slow motion playback. . . a very nifty feature i must say. . there are many exmaples on youtube. . . and while of no practical use. . .the novelty of it does appeal to me a lot.
ps: i wonder y that isnt mentioned. it seems to be one of its major USP;s . . . all other reviews provide special focus and substantial detail about this feature including technicals. Surprisingly it seems that the reviewer has'nt even noticed that the feature exists.
Soni @ Feb 21,2008
