Acer has surprisingly chosen to make its 19-inch offering 'oldstyle' (i.e. not widescreen). The F19 has a conventional squarish aspect ratio of 5:4. While this may annoy some, a native resolution of 1280 x 1024 offers decent work space and is still the most dominant resolution in use today.
The styling is quite decent. The F19's body consists of a thick and smooth black bezel with a glossy piano black finish that flows around and transitions to a very nicely designed multimedia speaker at the bottom. The speaker grill also holds the Ferrari logo.
Unlike the rest of the body, the base is a bright flaming red in keeping with the Ferrari theme. It’s nice and stable, with good weight balance. It also offers a degree of customization as the monitor can be tilted a fair bit.
Normally the rear of a monitor is not a topic that comes up for discussion. But in this case we must make an exception. The F19 has a lot going on at the back. The flaming red base extends upward into a beautifully designed frame that also houses the subwoofer. The overall effect is quite stunning.
This does leave us to ponder… WTF was Acer thinking while putting this brilliant color at the back of the monitor?!? A flaming red bezel with a glossy finish and streaks of beautiful piano-black color all over would truly have made this a product to lust after.
In its current form it’s quite nice, true, but when you think of a Ferrari the first thought that comes to mind is that of barely leashed power and speed. This monitor in its current appearance looks more like a VW beetle standing in front of a snarling F40.
Considering that Ferrari tends to make its products flaming red all over, sticking to that color scheme might have been far more appropriate.
