Acer Ferrari F19
By: Jayesh Mansukhani   |   Sep 27, 2007
Good graphical performance
Over-emphasized brightness
Obscenely expensive

As we already saw, the F19 has a conventional 5:4 aspect ratio, 1280 x 1024 resolution, 8ms response time, 500:1 image contrast ratio, and a brightness of 400 cd/m2. For more specifications please refer to the sheet below.

To test the performance of the monitor, we first sat with Displaymate and used its inbuilt test to optimize the monitor. This was done to bring the monitor to output at the best image it's capable of.

Now for the test results. The sharpness of the monitor is near perfect, with text being incredibly clear and crisp. The contrast levels were a bit subdued but within tolerable limits. The monitor’s grayscale performance was exceptional and yielded some good output.
The color and brightness tests were one area that did run into some trouble. The brightness is enhanced, and thanks to the increased sharpness the monitor already possesses, it leads to artifacts in the color tests, specifically the blue sections.
The brightness itself was a problem – thanks to the subdued contrast ratio, everything looked over-emphasized. While some may find this a pleasure to work with, try gaming with it for more than a few hours… it’s guaranteed to give you a headache. It took a lot of tweaking before we were able to bring the brightness down to a tolerable level.
In the gaming section there's nothing negative to report with respect to ghosting. The response time of 8ms ensured that. Funnily enough, the excessive brightness helped to improve our BioShock experience, which at times can get too dark.
Our next stop was the movie section. Playback was quite crisp and sharp. The sound output was quite decent and had some very good output.

Conclusion
The Ferrari F19 is a good product with decent styling and good performance. But when you consider that you'll be paying an astonishing Rs. 24,000 for it, a toned-down brightness level and better color scheme would have helped make the product better value for money.

We recommend this product only if you are a Ferrari fan … and got the money to burn.
