Sony Ericsson’s Cyber-shot range of mobile handsets come in some trendy designs. As they carry the name of Sony’s digital camera range, the expectation of similar performance is unavoidable. Then again, we have to take into account that we’re not talking about a dedicated device but a multipurpose gadget designed for various needs and requirements. We put the Cyber-shot C902 through some rigorous tests over the last ten days, and here’s our take on it.

Form Factor
The C902 is definitely a good-looking handset. It’s sleek and slim, and the lines running along its edges make it even more eye-catching. The 'hidden' camera is a unique feature. All you need to do to activate or reveal the camera is slide up the upper portion of the handset (just above the display) and voila, out pops a 5MP camera with a flash and a sexy blue neon light. The secondary camera for video calling is located in the front and doesn’t need to be activated by sliding, it’ll work as is. That is if we ever get to use it for its primary feature. Hullo! No 3G yet!

The 2-inch display has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and 256K colors. When the camera is activated, a set of touch-sensitive shortcuts (for camera options) appears all around the display. What I had a problem with is the keypad. Although it’s quite large, the keys are a bit hard and took some getting used to.

This 10.5mm thick handset has SE’s proprietary connector port for USB and a handsfree kit located on one side. Thankfully, like the Walkman series, the C902’s handsfree kit comes with a 3.5mm adapter. On the other side are the volume/zoom keys and the shutter release for the camera. It doesn’t have a hot swap slot for the M2 card (2GB provided) on the outside but you’ll find it under the rear panel. The rear panel is a bit tricky to open, so avoid fiddling with it unless necessary.

Features and Performance
The C902 offers all the basic applications: a Calendar, a Task option, Notes, Timer Stopwatch, Calculator and a Code Memo feature. Like all SE handsets that are 3G capable and have a secondary camera, the C902 also has a dedicated application for video calling. The menus can also be customized – from a simple grid to rotating icons and single icon views –  to make it look a bit more interactive.

it is very beautiful set
raghav gangil @ Aug 27, 2008
Sony again proved to be the pioneer in innovations yet compact and stylish with sleek designs. In fact, Sony's greatest advantage is its product design when compared to many besides the excellent Audio. Wish to possess one but have to wait for some more time as I've just possessed one of SE.
Velamuri VBSM @ Aug 25, 2008
It grows dazzling heat on present era’s camera phone. It categorizes the best in mobile technology. Sparkling features are into palm of digest.
Sabyasachi Saha @ Aug 13, 2008
20K???!!!! OMG!!!! AAH!!!
sad. I'm no nokia fan boy nor a SE hater... ( I own handsets from both the firms, in fact), but this review seems...kinda biased..
Nokia N82's far more VFM considering it packs in Wi-Fi, the best Xenon flash in the business and best of all, ngage support!! ;)
And it costs around 19K...i think??

SE has gone to the dogs.. a site called mobile-review has said that SE's sales have gone down by 47%.. SE's new management sucks big time... remember a year ago, when SE launched a phone, it had some seriously special feature unique to itself...nut now, everything's just plain vannila... look at the new launches of W590i,etc.. it's all too lacking in character... SE's trying to emulate Nokia's policy of launching all in one handsets & saturating the market with as many m

I love sony ericsson, we have a SE family, i have a W810i, my dad has a K810i, my brother has W890i. This phone is very sexy especially the slide out camera and the blue neon flash. Sony always brings up something special. I am a music lover so i am thinking of upgrading to the latest walky, the W905. But still i think that this phone is stunning. Keep on bringing such phones like this.

The C902 Cyber-shot phone is made for great pictures. The slide-out lens cover activates the 5-megapixel camera. Adjust settings via onscreen touch keys. Slim and stylish, with 5.0 megapixels, and touch screen camera keys, this phone looks as stunning as the shots it takes. "Ive always had a problem with the battery life of Sony Ericsson handsets"

which SE phone had battery problems? i have used two SE phones and they are on par with nokia in battery dept....

also i guess the reviewer was once saying the camera is not bad at all, then saying that its JUST about OK, he didn't see any direct prb with the cell.... comparison with other 5 MP camera phones (Viewty) would have been better.....

and camera phones are never going to be great because the processor can't handle larger resolutions.....
Sameer @ Jul 27, 2008
" My suggestion is Sony Ericsson C902 Cyber-shot is vice good phone with different with features when compare to others phone in the market. With features like hidden camera, fm, rear panel(if u one or twice u can easily do and work on rear panel i think so) and i think even the i-phone go to launch in octomber also didnt effect the c902 cyber shot .
Manoj S @ Jul 27, 2008

Good:
Average Looks.... Rich features, Quick Display of Photos, Videos [Fast Navigation]

Bad:

Once again sony ericssion does not understand that there is need to give maximum screen width that makes a phone more smarter [a part of everything else]....

High Price
Low Speaker Voice

This looks to be my dream phone, vary nice....
Shivsundar @ Jul 27, 2008
Having saftey for camera, which is too Good and Ausome Style
Ankit @ Jul 26, 2008
being a cyber-shot it's necessary that the mob shld have the latest MP technology, and no doubt C902 has the best but company shld also review their audio tech . also very large connectivity ports, not the cables but the sockets shld be made comparatively small
Suraj Harji @ Jul 26, 2008
u { sony ericsson} I THINK U HAVE LOST THE TECHNOLOGY OF MAKING GREAT PHONES . I BELIEVED IN UR TECHNOLOGY BLINDLY BUT AFTER USING P990I I HAVE NO FAITH IN U. N THINK WHAT D PRICE TAG U GIVEN 2 HANDSETS WHICH HAVE NO FEATURES.
PRESENTLY I M USING NOKIA N I M QUITE HAPPY WITH IT.
PANKAJ @ Jul 25, 2008
product is good, but the price seems to be too much.
But overall the look & features are very good.
Vijay Kumar G @ Jul 24, 2008
this is a good product provided by the brand owner to fill up the requirement of young generation. thanks a lot
mallaram @ Jul 24, 2008
no wonder why SE profit are going down so fast.

guys seems to have lost it after the k810. comming up with small screens + pathetic camera. I ceased being a SE fan after buring my fingers getting the K850i and w910.
SE fones used to sell because of cam and wplayer. I wonder when they will realise that they are lagging way behind in both the above
arun @ Jul 23, 2008
it has great features and good looks but the price is too much at 20,000
Sidhant Garg @ Jul 20, 2008
Xotic, I'm not sure what exactly it is you're looking for. The reviews here and on all other reputed sites will show you the users opinion of the handset, features that an average users and otherwise would need to know of and we ultimately do let our reader know whether or not it would make a sensible buy considering the cost factor.

If you have something specific, I'm all ears and i do appreciate the feedback in any case. It's important our readers let us know what THEY think.
Shayne @ Jul 16, 2008
the phone's ok but the display size is very small. a good camera phone shuld have atleast 2.4' of display[or more]. this is always a problem with sonyericsson handsets[good camera phones with tiny displays]. only then they can justify their price tag.
kapil @ Jul 15, 2008
wat i hate abut sony is thah they dont have a direct 3.5mm jack..n the connector wich is provided wit the phones becomes useless within a year..we have to press it hrd to get the phone charging n to listen to the music...n where is the gps..whose's gona bay 19k for this shit..better off wit a n82
