Fly SX100

Good-looking
Feature-rich
No USB cable provided
Poor battery life
Poor camera

Coming to connectivity, I was surprised to learn that the SX100 supports Bluetooth with an A2DP profile. Brilliant! It also has USB (proprietary) connectivity. Here’s the really odd thing though. You don’t get a cable. So I was stumped what to do when it came to transferring files from the phone to the PC quickly. Here’s what you need to do: if you have anything stored on the phone, transfer the data to the card. Then remove the card, and with a microSD card adapter and/or a card reader that supports microSD cards, you can transfer data to the PC and vice versa. Incidentally, WAP is also supported.

The 2 megapixel camera looks quite bad as far as the display goes, but the display resolution isn’t very high so it’s forgivable. The camera offers you plenty of options, including White Balance options, Scene Modes (only Auto and Night), various effect settings, and some interesting frames. but on the whole, the image reproduction is pretty bad. Don’t expect crystal-clear images; pictures tended to be very noisy and dull, and often just plain blurred. No amount of adjustments seemed to work.

I really liked the onboard Image Editor that allows plenty of adjustments to the pictures taken in terms of brightness and contrast, add various effects and icons, text etc. It’s quite a bit of fun. The SX100 also records video in MPEG4 format, and the videos are not too bad.

The problem is the battery life. It lasted just about 2 hours and a few minutes. That’s not very good, unfortunately. But for the average user it should last about a day, if used judiciously.

The Bottomline
At Rs 7400 the Fly SX100 seems quite reasonably priced. It's a very good-looking handset with plenty of features, but the chief drawback is its inadequate battery life and lack of in-box vitals such as a USB cable and a memory card. I feel it would make a really great fashion phone, but only if it were priced a bit better than it is now. As it is, I feel it’d be safer to say – pass.

I have issues with following: 1. Audio Player: I have a list of songs in my 2GB MicroSD memory card and the Audio player settings allows list to be picked from Memory Card. But even after refreshing the list, the list states as "Empty". This is also the case when location of list is selected as "Phone Memory". 2. PC Synchronization: After installing the PC suite I am not able to connect my handset with my PC. Hence, synchronzation is not possible. The FLY website lists features of SX100 and amongst others it says that SX100 has following features: a. Dictophone, b. Web Cam, c. E-mail Client. Kindly tell me how do I use the above features as my phone does not have any of the above settings.
