Installing the MX Air mouse was a breeze. We simply plugged in the provided dongle and were all set to go. Though Logitech provides a comprehensive software suite, it was not really needed.
The Logitech MX Air Mouse is not the first 'Air' mouse. There have been other products made by other manufacturers that didn’t do too well and were consigned to the waste heap. It is to Logitech’s credit that they decided to revitalize this segment.
Coming back to topic, the Air mouse utilizes a combination of MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) sensors, DSP (digital signal processing) technology and RF (radio frequency) wireless technology in the 2.4 GHz band. Now while all the technical terms mean squat for most of us, what it translates to is that the mouse can be held in hand and used virtually in a manner similar to being used on a desktop. The mouse easily recognizes hand gestures and translates them to movements on the screen.
How accurate is it? The answer is… very accurate. The mouse’s movement while being used in air is uncannily spot-on. Furthermore, thanks to a combination of some hardware algorithms, it not only has no lag but is able to detect any slight involuntary tremors and eliminate them altogether. This makes it a perfect candidate for use with Windows Media center.
Not only is scrolling through the menus a breeze, the mouse can be used as remote very easily. I was able to easily manipulate my playlist of songs, lower/increase the volume and play /pause without any issues. Here the design of the mouse helped. Since I was utilizing it in a manner similar to a remote, the grip was comfortable and very easy to use.
Another good aspect of the MX Air mouse is its battery life. The mouse uses a Lithium-Ion battery that easily lasts three days. Logitech has provided a nice desktop charger that takes barely takes an hour to recharge the battery.
The Logitech MX Air mouse is an odd product. On the one hand it represents a good step forward in technological implementation, brilliant color scheme and top-notch gesture recognition. On the other hand it is prohibitively expensive at Rs. 9000, extremely uncomfortable to use as a desktop mouse for power users and is needlessly big.
Keeping all this in mind, we would suggest that you purchase this product only if you have the cash for it. At its price point you can get four or five wireless mice that may not be as elegant or comfortable to use, but will certainly do the job.
