The webcam growth has been a lot more evolutionary than revolutionary. The cameras have become smaller, increased in resolution and have even integrated the mic so you don't have to wear a flimsy headset for your video calls. These days you even get some fun bundled software to add a little entertainment to the otherwise mundane video calls. But from what I've seen, none of them offer the mix of features and quality as the Logitech QuickCam Ultra.
At first look the QuickCam Ultra has a very unique shape and mount. The big cylindrical body with the extended mounting loop, seemed pretty much out of the ordinary, when compared to the webcams we've been reviewing off late. But once I attached it to my LCD monitor, it fitted as though it was custom built for it. Unfortunately that's also where its limitation lies. The QuickCam ultra cannot be fitted on a CRT monitor or a laptop screen, and there's no way you can place it on your desk either.
The front of the webcam is divided into two parts, one with the main lens and the other with a ring of light that indicates when the webcam is on. The metal ring that separates these two sides conceals the microphone. There are two buttons on either side, the one on the left takes a quick snapshot and the one on the right turns on the camera giving you the option to quickstart your instant messenger as well.
