Epson Stylus Photo R290

Good price
Vibrant colors
No banding
No ink spillage
Aligning cartridge takes some time

A colorful photo-print took about 1 minute and 36 seconds. The printer can handle gradients really well. Unlike most photo printers we've reviewed, the R290 managed to churn out the prints without any visible banding.

The black was true enough, which means there's no blue tinge etc. Even the font test was quite satisfactory; there was no ink spillage. I did notice a couple of prints where the blacks spilled a bit, but that was only in the first and second picture. That reminds me, you have to align the cartridge before you start printing for the first time.

The Epson R290 costs Rs 11,500, and is a good deal if you need an easy solution to those printing blues. Consider this: you throw a birthday party, and right after the cake is cut you can simply print pics and distribute them. It’s that simple. As far as performance is concerned, we liked what we saw. I'd say, go for it.

1. Aligning the heads is an automatic process performed by your printer, which most printers handle duly. If not you have to manually approach the settings and bring it up.

2. I do think Rs 11,500 is a good price for this printer, considering it prints faster and better than most photo printers we have tested. Usually, the rating is based on performance and features added together, but performance more so. The printer does perform to garner this rating. Read performance if you haven't yet!!

3. Photo Printers generally tend to weigh around 3.5-6 Kg. It's a cursory mention rather than necessary specific. You don't generally tend to go jogging with it.

4. Read point number two

WTFs/Come Agains: How about raising some legitimate doubts rather than just copy paste from the review. What is it you want clarified??

Actually, the reviewer meant that Rs. 11500 is a good price for a "decent PHOTO Printer" not just Colour Printer.

Qureshi's first review? Editor sleeping?
Please elaborate on the "aligning cartridge takes some time".
The time quoted for printing colour image does not mention the size.
Are you sure 11500 is a "good price" for an inkjet colour printer?
What is the dpi?

Faulty assumptions:
"It weighs about 5.4Kg, which is not much; traditionally printers tend to be bigger and heavier."
"This photo printer will not fail to satisfy you, especially after you hear the price" (this would have sounded OK, if the price were half of what is stated).

WTFs/Come agains :
"This printer doesn’t have a screen, but that’s all right (you won’t miss it). ""Cartridge installation is easy, there’s nothing to it. "
"Only remember to install the driver CD before you plug the printer in. This way you know where to begin."
