For those still guessing, the Q5 not only plays music but also hogs the limelight for its video playing capabilities. The 5-inch touchscreen LCD can display 16 million colors and offers a resolution of 800 X 480 pixels. It comes in 40GB and 60GB capacities (we got the former for review.)
The device runs on Windows CE 5.0 Professional OS, which stands to be one of the least appreciated features. Perhaps Cowon didn’t find it necessary to invest in a proprietary interface. This is obviously the easy way out – all the Office tools that come bundled with the OS wouldn’t have been possible without the Windows professional OS.
I sincerely wish Cowon had worked on their own UI, since staying true to its reputation, the Windows OS kept hanging time and again. The player takes about 20 seconds to boot, and at times forever!
The fact that the Q5 is powered by the AMD Alchemy 500Mhz CPU allows the Q5 to handle the sluggishness of the OS... well sort of. It comes equipped with 64MB flash and 128MB DDR2 SDRAM.
