Excellent feature list
15x optical zoom at full resolution
Great overall image quality
Brilliant screen
Comes with remote control
Noisy at higher ISO levels
Annoying navigation
View Specifications

Sony's top end Superzoom promises big with a whopping 15x optical zoom at full resolution and a huge 3-inch tiltable screen. But is it really better than the somewhat disappointing little brother – the Cyber-shot H7? Or does it shine as a must-have among superzooms? There's only one way to find out!

The H9 has a build you can't complain about, with its comfortably deep handgrip and a good size of 110 x 83 x 86 mm. Of course you have the option to increase the macho element a bit by adding the tremendously oversized and daunting hood attachment.

At full wide
At 15x optical zoom

The back of the H9 has a very annoying navigation system that keeps switching between the jog dial and the d-pad. Makes me really wonder how the engineers found this to be the right navigation method for a camera like this one. Evolve people, evolve!

Sony is the best. They should have increased its Mp from 8 to 10. Anyways its still the best.

Go for Canon S3 / S5.
Simply Great..!!

Sony Cameras are not so good.

Well whoever said that a professional would not buy H9 is true. Why would he? Professional use SLRs/DSLRs and not Ultra-Zoom Semi-DSLRs. So, whoever said it is kind of out of mind to say so.

Coming to H9 people have speculation about it a lot and compare it with Canon S5. Both the cams are good. I have a H5 and I used to compare it with S3 at that time. But later I found that they really were not much different. You cannot underestimate Sony at all. You can go ahead with a Sony cam and will never EVER regret. Thats why it is called "SONY".

Cannon S5 IS is way way better then this one, works on standard battries taking easy 450+ shots on 2500mAh battries, can youse normal SD / MMC cards.. dont have to be stuck with the sony tie up with their brandings... Plus Cannon S5 IS has better results that this H9 but optical is less in compared... 12x ...buts have a brillant screen tilt, and you can rotate screen and take you own pictures by looking at the display etc.. has hotshoe for external flashes as well...like SLRS...after i did research and analysis... i went for cannon S5 IS in ulta Zoom cameras... Simply the best....

Sunny @ Jan 20,2008
it's too expensive, one can pick up a rebel or even a D50, maybe even a D60 for a bit more which are vasty better prosumer and semi-pro cams
dennis @ Jan 19,2008
M highly impressed by the super capablities of this cam...but at such a steep price it would make me think atleast 20 times before i put in so much money...i'v had d experience of usin a Kodak Z812IS n am very satisfied wid d goodies it bundled at a low price (Rs 12000). The features list is almost same except for it havin a 12X optical n ISO1600 top off.
I'd be really happy if u did a head on comparison with a few cams in d same category (super zoom) n told us the best 1 (feature wise n pocket wise)

How does H7 differs from H3 except 15x optical ?
Tanuj Sharma @ Jan 19,2008
Is there any difference between H7 & H9 except a bigger LCD
and better IR for shooting in darkness.
