Having an MP3 player is one thing and I think it’s extremely sensible to have one in your mobile phone so you don’t have to worry about carrying too many gadgets with you. The 5700 hasn’t accomplished something new in that field however. It’s not the first nor will it be the last. But what phones like these have that can be construed, as distinguishing factors, are their designs and how user-friendly they are, from transferring your files and data to even the speed at which the phone operates. Let’s see how the 5700 holds up with regards to these and other factors.

Form Factor

The design concept of this funky phone I can’t say is unique. It’s a reinvented and sleeker, or should I say rounder, (for want of a better word) version of the Nokia 3250 and a little bit of the 5300 I’d have to say as well. On the top and bottom you’ll find the Power switch and 2.5mm earphone socket respectively. At first I was quite disappointed to see the 2.5mm socket but like the 3250 model, this one comes with a converter as well that’s attached to a control clip. The controller has everything to control the music player, voice dialing and taking and ending calls. So you can attach any other earphones to this if you don’t like Nokia’s ‘In-your-Ear’ earphones that come bundled.

What you may find a bit odd is that there’s one speaker on the left at the top and the other on the right side at the bottom. The reason is when you twist the bottom all the way round to the media mode keypad, both speakers will be on the same side. Ingenious. Half way around is the 2 megapixel camera of course. The bottom can also be twisted the other way although it won't go all the way round but the camera will point at you in case you wanted to be a narcissist and take a shot of yourself.

On one side of the phone are the volume/zoom keys, and on the other side underneath a flap just below the infrared sensor is what houses the charging port, the microSD slot and miniUSB port. The 5700, like most of Nokia’s new models also has a light sensor located at the very top near the headset. What it does is gauge how much light is present and adjust the settings in your phone so the keypad doesn’t light up. If you cover it or if it’s dark enough the keypad will light up. The ‘Clear’ and ‘Menu’ buttons on either side of the screen would seem oddly hard and unworkable till you realize that the button itself is located just above the symbol. On the whole the keypad itself is extremely easy to use for messaging or otherwise.

all u ppl are liers big time liers i have a nokia 5700 xpress music for few months now it never gave me any problem the sound quantity through speakers is a lil low than n73 but in sound quality n73 got no chance with the 5700 xpress music cuz of its dedicated audio chip .. and the 16 million color display is perfect for video play back and under sunlight ... the 2 mp camera is good enough in day light but at night and dark times it takes a lil lower quality pictures ... i can use upto 4 gb memory in this phone without any problem and the battery lasts for 2 days but thats after i play music for about 24 hours and after taking a few calls .... and the twisting base is rock solid it never got loosen up ... a perfect well balanced music plus a s60 3rd edition smart phone ...

hey guys. I just wanna warn you, recently bought 5700 -less than a week ago- and so far I am very disappointed with the battery life of the phone. I have to charge the phone every 2 days. I even tried not to use and listen music and check how long it last in stand by mode. I just left it and saw it only lasted little over 2 days. I have to warn you be careful with the phone battery life. If you wanna charge it like I have to now every 2 days be my guest and buy it. But so far I dont recommend the phone. Even if other features are ok what is to buy if I have to charge it like this. Battery life of this phone sucks badd.. Dont buy unless they find a solution for the battery life problem.
BATTERY LIFE SUCKSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am just a bit worried about my 5700 as i heard that the twist mechanism does give some problems.....is it true or can it be repaired if it breaks by any chance
yasho @ Oct 27, 2007
i am using this phone for the last five months. really full featured phone. excellent voice quality. just adjust the equalizer and then hear the music. It has everything i wanted. Don't compare with sony ericson. it has more cool features than any other phone. u just need to know how to handle it.
Santosh @ Oct 05, 2007
guys u can always improve on the sound quality and volume by installing jukebox or other mp3 player softwares, they deliver greater bass and volume, try it!
only can someone tell me which phone has better bass by default,5700 or n73 ?

i also have up my N73 Music Xpress for the Nokia 5700 MUsic Xpress...Its WAY better than the N73 MXP, although the camera is a little less valuable than the N73, it is still one of the most amazing phones ever made by Nokia. It has everything a person needs in a phone, a beautiful design, its fun to use, good camera, amazing music player, great display resolution, and much more
Omar Baadarani @ Aug 04, 2007
sound quality is not so good.
anil @ Aug 04, 2007
The screen resolution is amazing and the sound clarity is also good.5700 is far better than other series of Nokia ( especially N70 / N72 ....etc).
unni @ Jul 30, 2007
I gave up using my N73 after using this phone. Though N73 costs Rs.4k more than this phone but it lags b'hind it...

Who says you cant change the folder hierarchy??
Unlike other s60 phones this one runs on the latest version of s60 i.e., v3 9.2 .In this you can create as many folders in each folder and so on.(this was not possible in earlier phones only one folder was allowed). This phone also has mony other menu views not just grid and list views. Also there appears a small dot near the icon indicating running applications. Other phones running os 9.2 are n95,e90,6290.
