Crackdown

  • 3.5
Addictive as hell
Jumping around the city is immense fun
Cel Shaded look is cool
Addition of co-op in a free roaming game is a blast
Explosions are extremely satisfying
Awesome draw distances
Boss Fights are extremely lame
Can get monotonous
Not as replayable as you may think
Driving sucks
Comparing Crackdown to GTA at first glance is inevitable; in fact when asked what this game was all about, by certain co-workers, I simply described it as a next gen GTA on crack (pun intended). Not only was Dave Jones, the man behind the genre defining Grand Theft Auto franchise behind this game as well, but early game videos led us to believe so. However, after playing this game continuously for the past few days, I can happily say Dave Jones and his team of merry men at Realtime Worlds have done a brilliant job crafting a game which is nothing like GTA (in a good way) and is still tons of fun to play... scratch that, it’s as addictive as the real thing.

If there’s any game you could compare Crackdown with, it would probably be Vivendi Universal’s The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Why? Let’s take a look:
  • Larger than life protagonist – Check
  • The ability to scale buildings in a single jump – Check
  • Kick people/cars/objects across a distance of nearly a 100 feet – Check
  • Pick up anything that even weighs a ton – Check

See a pattern emerging here? Crackdown is one game that doesn’t take itself seriously and that fact is pretty apparent in its plot as well, which goes something like this: Pacific City has been overrun by three gangs, the Los Muertos, the Volks, and the Asian Shai Gens and since the local law enforcement agency can’t handle the heat anymore, they’ve cloned a genetically modified super agent to handle the situation.

Biswajit @ Feb 22, 2007
OH..

It would do good like a Arcade game.. just turning it on and doing things for timepass...

only thing good will be during the Co-op multiplayer missions I wonder if one can lift the car and throw it when the other is sitting inside...

That would be a great mode of transport (jumping out right before crash that is)
