5 Phones We'd Like To See In India
By: Shayne Rana   |   Apr 14, 2007

Manufacturers are going all out to equip their products with whatever they can squeeze into them. But for a developing country like ours, we may not get a chance to see most of these amazing devices. I mean we do get a lot but let's face it, not everything we want. You already know what new phones and gizmos are out there thanks to all of us who keep dribbling about them all over the site, but which one of those would we really, and I mean REALLY, want to see brought to India within our (and your) reach? Here are a few mobile phones we wish were easily available in this country because we'd rather buy them ourselves right away than ask some random relative to pick it up for us from the UK, or US or Australia and then wait for months for it.

Sony Ericsson FOMA SO902iWP+

Now here's a phone that's right ready for a country like ours that tends to get flooded ever so often during the monsoons. The FOMA SO902… that's too long a name. But this is Sony Ericsson Japan's waterproof phone. So if you're ever caught in a sudden rain shower or for those overly popular people who need to talk even while taking one, this phone is right up your alley. It even runs on a Symbian OS so we're all used to that right (as long as the OS is not in Japanese).

Nokia 6110 Navigator

Not that people in this city need to find their way around or anything (the friendly neighborhood paan-walah is always around), but a GPS map in my mobile phone just might come in handy for people like my dad who tend to get a bit lost in some of those odd places in the city at night. Here's where the Navigator comes in with its voice guided 3D map guidance system. It's also equipped with a 2.0 megapixel camera and software that reads out your messages and emails, just like MOTOMING 's 'Talking Phone' software. The 6110 also runs on Symbian OS. It's also equipped with a media player with 3D sound and it even comes with 40MB of internal memory as well as support for micro SD cards up to 2GB. It's capable of video calling and has EDGE. So it's covered for everything.

Tarush, IPhone would not be compatible with any other service provider but AT&T(Cingular) for now. So guess we gotta wait to have one in India

All these phones are really very cool... But i was wondering even if i do go to UK or US or anywhere and happen to buy any of these would they work here? I mean, i heard they're only cellular service providers who sell these phones and so i reckon they wouldn't actually work here.

If anyone knows or thinks otherwise... Please be kind enough to tell, cuz i'm all bonkers for the iPhone.

The phone which should really come is
1.Sony Ericsson FOMA SO902iWP+
2. Apple i-phone
Only one problem is Apple should have a strong battery back since the phone will be also used for listening to music.
Sony has everything nice except the battery backup which they really really need to work up. In india there are lot of people who would like to own a sony phone but cause of the battery backup Nokia has scored over them and is the leader in indian market.I am nor a nokia nor sony supporter. I am a person who loves mobile and I change my handset every month so u can understand.

Great phone but I'm Sorry Apple, I won't buy it. I was looking to have something better than 2MP camera in this phone
(something that I already have), because camera is a important feature for me in mobile device. I totally rely on my mobile for my camera needs.

The Sony Ericsson has a weird name and looks but it I am sure no one will be laughing at it when they see its utility in the middle of great Indian monsoon. The Helio also looks like a very cool phone

Mobile phones cannot be called "Mobile Phones" no more. Cus, as we all know by now, they are not just phones. They are "Mobile Mini PC, with camera and calling facilities". Truly amazing. And like the author said "what will they think of next?". Maybe..mobile fashion quipment, thingy. Like u go to a clothing shop, and u click a pic of it, and with the phone, u can see if u look good in it, without even trying it on!

sounds crazy, but meh...probably thats what we would have said abt iPohne in 2003.

Mobile manufacturers (Nokia, SE, Samsung) must release their new phones in the Indian, European & American markets at the same time. Indian market has got good potential.....
