A Gaming Machine For Rs 60,000
By: Jayesh Mansukhani   |   Jul 14, 2008

Since the last time we did this roundup, there have been a few changes. The prices of Intel’s 45nm processors have dropped slowly, and in a surprising but most welcome move, ATI has re-entered the graphics stakes with the introduction of its 4850 chipset. Another piece of good news for Mumbai folk is that Dell is now available over the counter at a few select locations. Keeping all this in mind, here's our latest refresh of the Rs 60,000 Gaming PC.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

In our last roundup we had gone with Intel’s E8200 processor. This time we've taken a step forward and chosen the direct upgrade to that – the E8400. Similar to the E8200, it’s based on Intel’s 45nm process, has a clock of speed of 3.0 GHz, and runs on a 1333 MHz FSB. It also has 6MB L2 cache. Considering that experienced overclockers can easily make it hit 4GHz, you get a CPU that's perfect for this roundup.

Motherboard: Abit IP35-E

Abit as a firm needs no introduction. Having been a premier OC board maker for a decade now, its products are very reliable and can withstand a lot of stress. The IP35-E is based on the Intel P35 series of chipsets and offers native support for the 1333 MHz FSB. The board lacks onboard graphics, but does offer a single PCIe 16x slot, 2 PCIe x1 slot, 8 USB slots, 3 PCI slots, and 4 SATA 2 (3GB) slots.

RAM: Kingston DDR2 800 (2GB)

A single stick of DDR2 RAM is now available for just Rs 1,850. And Kingston, with its product lifetime warranty and great quality, is the perfect choice.

man .....!! This is a gaming rig and no gaming device .......!! This thing should be understood by all that no powerful computer can be a gaming rig else it has somthing other than power and performance to differentiate it with other ones and give a console-like feel .....!! So give it a Gamepad .....!! And if possible a Gamewheel .....!! else it remains just a rig ....!!

@ shanal : it's the right price. you might've been robbed.
@abhijit : if you're going for quad-core, might as well get the 9450 .. the 6600 is 65nm, with not-so-great reviews. just a suggestion though, i'm sure the 6600 works more than fine :)
Shrey @ Aug 08, 2008
Western Digital SATA II 500GB is really 3250rs or is miss print as i recently 2 month ago bought the same for 5200rs.
shanal @ Aug 04, 2008

An Intel Q6600 is a much better future proof option. You get 4 cores, plus the ability to overclock the CPU to 3.0 GHz. And 2 GB!? You've got to be kidding me. Go for ATLEAST 3 GB.

Pick a smaller monitor. 1440 x 900 is an ideal resolution given that the config uses the HD 4850.
Abhijit @ Aug 04, 2008
Good Config.... Though i'd push down the processor one notch and load up on more RAM. 3GB is needed for smooth Win Vista usage in multi-tasking enviros.
Karthik Kumar @ Aug 03, 2008
how do we calculate that how big psu we need for r rig??? I mean hw do we decide weaher we should get a 300W PSU or a 450W or a 600W or a 800W

Nikhil Jain @ Aug 01, 2008
It seems Mr. Madnav [posted on 23 July] and Mr. Rajesh [also posted on 23 July] are annoyed with me......!! I am really sorry ....!!!

@ Madnav
kk!! I knew that earlier but actually I also knew that its an ATI product and costing much less than 9600....!! So i was not much convinced weather its really that good.......!! But now as I've heard this from many many people I am very much convinced about its power and performance...!! ut i still need to know this from a prson who has actually seen both the graphic card's prformance in his real life to be fully convinced....!!!

@rajesh

rajesh @ Jul 23, 2008

gr @ Jul 20, 2008
Top tip for the lazy gamers:
man get a 360 for like 15-18k, then get a good 22-24" screen for 15k+, get a nice lazboy chair and live life with awesomeness......
Madan @ Jul 17, 2008
I would not with abit by any chance. I would rather go with ASUS or Gigabyte for MB's here would be my ideal gaming system.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
ASUS P5Q Motherboard
Kingston 4GB DDR2@800 MHz
Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme cooler
CoolerMaster 650W Extreme Power supply
Palit HD4850
Seagate 500GB @ 7200RPM
LG/Samsung 20x DVD-RW
Dell 20" Moniter

one thing to mention Tech2 have not added any 3rd party cooler in this review which would be recommended by me for all Gaming rigs. the little Intel stock cooler isn't good for a heavy gaming rig
OJ @ Jul 17, 2008
I prefer Intel Extreem series Boards for their build quality, rather then Abit
i dont really like the name.

Remaining mentioned things are quite resonabel
i mean ..not bad
shreeshka @ Jul 16, 2008
@ OJ

Nikhil Jain @ Jul 16, 2008

Nikhil Jain @ Jul 16, 2008
8.1 Sound???? I guess you mean 8 channel sound, right?
Raunak Mehta @ Jul 15, 2008
why not use an original Intel MB and why do you always insist on a Kingston Ram, use GSkill or Crosair
av @ Jul 15, 2008
can u tell the price of ati Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 ?
vidhu @ Jul 15, 2008
@ AMIT SALUNKE = in which world you are living ? Radeon HD4850 is the card which falls between Geforce GTX 260 & 280 considered performance. Geforce 8800GT is way too old now. Radeon HD4850 certainly beats it up that too by a long margin
