As we rocket-jump to 2008, we can't help but look back at all the great things that happened in 2007. Superzooms got a lot more 'super' with 15-18x optical zoom levels, camera interfaces got a lot more intuitive, and compact cameras slowly but steadily started to fade away from the market... only to be replaced by the sleeker and sexier ultra-compact slim cameras.
Yep, it was a good year for digital photography. But out of the huge number of cameras we tested, there were a few that left a lasting impression – as the most memorable cameras of the past year. So here's a list of five such cameras that were good enough to stand apart as our favorite 2007 releases.
Canon Powershot A570IS
Canon was pretty cold with its compact cameras this year; the focus (pardon the pun) seems to have been on the ultra-compact Digital IXUS series instead. Well, who are we to complain as long as they don't compromise on the performance? Smart and comfortably designed, with a host of manual features, the A570IS proved a great general purpose camera. Great overall image quality is what endeared it to us, and a good optical image stabilization system only added to the flavor. Check out our complete review of the A570IS for details.
