5. Post processing is a must
Even the best photographers these days always run their photos through Photoshop to fix the little anomalies. Of course there’s nothing like a great photo straight out of the cam, but things don’t really work out that well every time.
Basic things like fixing the levels and colors can really bring out the hidden features of a photo. And these days most free imaging applications can do it for you. The one I personally recommend for any casual or amateur photographer is Google’s Picasa.

Picasa makes basic corrections easy
With just simple button clicks you can fix the levels, colors, remove red eyes, straighten and crop pictures to perfection. You can also go a step further and fine tune the images by tweaking the highlights or further darkening the shadows. The best part is that none of the changes you make overwrite the original files, so you can always roll-back the changes when you want.

Advance image editing options in Picasa
The best way to get better results is to keep clicking and experimenting. No rule is absolute. Once you get a hang of all the known techniques, start un-learning and create your own style.
